What I'm Wearing #4 Winter Glowy Skin

I started this series earlier this year but stopped after I left residence and had too much makeup to play with back home. I'm bringing it back though because I'm trying to finish up some more makeup items before I pack everything and return to Vancouver.

The theme for this month is glowy skin!

Face Products

1) Lioele Water Drops BB Cream: This gives a really nice sheer coverage and feels refreshing on the skin.

2) ELF Baked Blush in Rich Rose: I apply this in the hollow of my cheeks to double as a contour and a blush

3) MAC Extra Dimensions Skin Finishing Powder in Whisper of Gilt: I put this on my cheeks and slightly higher as a higher.

This is what layering the highlighter over the blush looks like.

Eye Products

4) Shisedo Fine Eyeliner: For my upper lashline, I can make a nice precise wing

5) Urban Decay Big Fatty Mascara: Nice natural everyday mascara that doesn't feel crunchy

6) Urban Decay Primer Potion: Put this over my lid before putting on eyeshadow which I switch up

7) Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Zero: Use this on my lower lashline and waterline

8) Bombay Browbar Brow Powder: Use this with a brush to fill in my brows

Lip Products

9) Burt's Bees Tinted Lipbalm in Red Dahlia: Keeping it simple with a dark berry lip balm

10) Etude House Shini Star Lip Balm: One of my new purchases, this smells so yummy! Not much color though

Here's the finished look! Nicely sculpted and shiny cheeks! The Lioele BB cream also offers a nice finish for a flawless finish. Hope you enjoyed this post and I hope to bring back this series for 2014!

Empties: Last of 2013

Happy December Everyone! Sorry for the lack of updates! I just went on a 10 day trip to Guangzhou and then to Thailand! My parents flew over from Canada to Asia and we are travelling together. But here's presenting the rest of my empties! This will most likely be my last empties post for 2013 and it includes 5 makeup items yay!

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer :/ Review
Hate the silicone feel, but the finish is really smooth and nice.

Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer :) Review
This primer has a strong pigmentation but I really like it because it evens out my lid color.

Stila Lip Glaze in Jack Frost :)
A very glittery lip gloss. Really neutral for every day but gives lips a huge oommphhh! I totally thought I did a swatch of this lip glaze already but I haven't! :(

Rimmel Extra Super Lash Mascara :) Review
Nice and black, held a curl, lengthened lashes, didn't smudge. Overall a great mascara at a drugstore price.

ELF Lip Pencil in Pink Umbrellas :(
This was a horrible product! I'm actually throwing this away. It made my lips look so chapped even when it wasn't. Unnatural color too. Can't be bothered to keep using this up. A full review coming soon.

Skinlite Make-up Cleansing Tissues- Green Tea :/
Got these at IMATS, they were okay nothing special but I loved the scent!

Bello Peach Facial Cleansing Wipes  :/
Got these at Watsons, not a huge fan of the scene but got my makeup off well.

Watson's Invigorating Wet Tissues x2- Green Tea :)
I love green tea if you can't tell. I really liked how handy they were to clean up a mess or just wipe my hands after swatching.

Watson's Scented Tissues x4 :)
Really enjoy the floral scent that comes with these tissues. Essential in Asia!

Exact Multipurpose Solution :/
Didn't like that I had to rub it. But when I did, it cleaned my lenses fine

Crest Pro-Health Toothpaste :(
Didn't think it was possible to have an opinion on toothpaste but I hate this. Kind of taste like bubble gum, feels gritty after I rinse and my mouth doesn't taste fresh.

Mopidick :)
This is legitmately a LIFESAVER! This is for mosquito bites and it reduces the itch right away!

Dettol Anti-Bacterial Bodywash :)
Didn't think it was possible to have an opinion on bodywash either but I really like this. This is supposedly suppose to protect you from bacterial!

Etude House Pearl Extract Face Mask :/
Felt pretty good but didn't feel any difference.

Laneige Blackhead Pore Strip :/
Felt tight on the nose and feels like it would pull out impurities but didn't really see a difference

Walker Sugar Free Mints :):)
This is so random but these are the TASTIEST mints I've ever had. The flavor is so delicious. Pick it up if you see it in your super market. Might only be in HK though.

Link me to your empties! I'd love to read them :) Sidenote, I only have 15 days left on this exchange! Time has really flown by!

Different Ways to Use Benefit Watt's Up

Hey Everyone! So I'm sure you've all heard and seen the Benefit's highlighter Watt's Up. Especially since it's included in this year's birthday gift from Sephora, many people have this in their collection! I have the trial size as well so this tutorial will be on how to use it without the sponge ended applicator.

It is a golden beige highlighter without sparkle

When I recently started using it, I wasn't too sure what to use it for and when I tried searching online, I couldn't find too much. So here's my guide on 5 different ways to use this product!

1) As a highlighter
I know this one is so self explanatory but I felt like I should include it anyways! You can apply it on your cheeks, bridge of your nose, under your brows and the typical spots.

Swipe it on using the stick and blend out with your fingers

2) Above your cupid's bow on your lips
If you want to draw a little attention to your lips, put this right in the middle to make it pop and catch the light. It helps to define the shape of your lips.

I swirl my finger on the product and pat it above my lips.

3) As an eye shadow or base

This color actually works really well to neutralize the shade and provide a nice base color.

Either swipe on the product and blend with your fingers or grab the product using a stiff eyeshadow brush. You can also layer the product to make the color payoff stronger.

4) As an inner tear duct color and inner lower lashline.
This is my favorite way to use it!This really opens up the eyes and make you look more awake.

I didn't extend it out to my lash line but I would use a liner brush to grab the product and then place it on my lash line. The inner tear duct can be done using your fingers or a dense eye shadow brush.

5) Applying it to your whole cheek area
You can use this as a blush if you want a luminous cheek look. This would be appropriate for a night out on the town or for any festive Christmas parties. The shimmer in this highlighter is subtle enough so you won't look like a disco ball. Although still use caution and mix in some matte eyeshadows if you plan to go this route.

I used a small stipple brush to blend this out but fingers would work just fine. Swipe the highlighter wherever you would normally put your blush.

So those are my five ways to use the product! Hope you liked it and let me know how else you use this product or what's your favorite way to use a highlighter in general? :)

Review: Blistex Medicated Lip Ointment

I've had this lip balm for a very long time and I'm actually almost done it now. I was surprised that I haven't done a post about this yet.

Pretty much this is marketed as a lip ointment that helps to relieve cold sores and dry lips. When you put it on, it is quite minty and has a medicated smell. I actually like the smell but some people might be put off. The cooling feel would be nice if you have irritated or chapped lips.

It's a really thin consistency and it doesn't feel oily at all. Feels very water based. The product sinks into your lips after application so it doesn't stay on like lipbalms. But that means it's perfect to use before lipsticks.

I've been using this for a while

White colored lip ointment

Thin consistency

Lip Balm Ratings
Moisturizing: 8/10
Scent/Taste: 4/5
Packaging: 3/5
Longevity: 4/5
Value: 5/5
Overall: 24/30 B

I haven't found this to be super moisturizing but it does feel very nice on the lips. I think this ointment makes the most impact if you actually have cold sores or super dry lips. I've been using it as a daily lip balm and it's not as great as Burt's Bees and the likes but it is really nice to use before lipstick application. At $2 though, you can definitely afford to experiment with this and see if it works for you!

Do you have a special product you save for super chapped lip days? Or do you have a regular lip balm?

Travel Diary: Guangzhou, Shanghai, Cheung Chau Island

Helllooo! I'm back with another travel post. The past two weekends I went to Guangzhou and Shanghai. Both cities were very similar. They were busy economic cities of China.

Guangzhou

One of the highlights was the boat cruise along the Pearl River. Definitely recommended!

A funny sign I found in a mall

Glitz and glam of the Four Seasons Hotel

Overall I didn't find that many tourist attractions in Guangzhou. I went there for the weekend with my friend mainly to shop. There's a center with floors of replica bags. I would definitely recommend the pearl river cruise as a tourist stop. The zoos are also great but I've seen too many animals recently and passed up on it.

Shanghai
This crazy model of Shanghai city in the Urban Planning Museum

The Bund- all the asian city skylines are starting to look the same

The beautiful Yuyuan Garden

Wearing traditional Chinese costumes

The circus show!

I think Shanghai is a great way to see China. Many people have a misconception of how dirty Mainland is but Shanghai was really clean modern and safe! Some of the top tourist attractions we did include: World Financial Center, Yuyuan Garden, Urban Planning Center, and Shanghai Circus World. We also ate tons of Xiao Long Bao!!!! So delicious!

Cheung Chau Island + The Peak

Since coming to HK, I've either been traveling during the weekends or super bogged down with school work. This weekend I took one day out to explore an outlying island of Hong Kong.

Beautiful beach even in November

Taking a raft out

Delicious seafood by the sea

Two months later I finally went up to the Peak! The view was gorgeous but I think I've already gotten used to the sight so it wasn't as impressive. Also maybe cause we had to wait 1.5 hours before getting on the tram!

With just over a month left of my exchange, I hope to really see more of Hong Kong and explore some of the hidden treasures of the city!

Have you been to Guangzhou or Shanghai? Where else in HK should I go??

5 Product Emergency Makeup Look

This post is inspired by emilynoel83's video. She's one of my favorite youtubers and I highly suggest her channel. Check out her 4 product emergency makeup routine video here!

For myself, I picked 5 products that will help you get out the door within 3 minutes!

1) Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
I just squeeze this out of the tube and apply it with my hands.

2) ELF Under Eye Concealer & Highlighter
I only use the concealer side of this and I put it above my eye and on my eye lid so it doubles as a primer!

3) Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil
I use this black liner on my top and wing it out a tiny bit. Then I draw halfway across my bottom lashes.

4) Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara
I apply one coat of this to my top lashes

5) Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Red Dahlia
As I'm running out the door, I just swipe this lip balm on and it gives a punch of color!

So that's my 3 minute routine. What's yours? What are the products you use when you need to get out the house fast?

Empties: September + October

Usana Proflavanol C :)
These were Vitamin C tablets. I really liked it! It had a citrusy flavor and was easy to swallow and I thought it helped my immune system when I needed it! But it's probably just placebo effect :P

Q-tips :)
I don't think I have much to say about Q-tips haha everyone uses them. I use it mostly to clean up my under eye area after taking off my makeup because I usually still have black smudges from mascara.

Coast Hotel Rosemary Bath Gel :(
This was not pleasant to use at all. And I don't like the scent of rosemary either.

Westin Hotel White Tea Aloe Body Lotion :)
You know how some smells bring back memories? This reminds me of Hawaii and Mexico! Even though I stayed in the Westin Vancouver haha. Love the combination of white tea and aloe.

Re-nu Solution :)
I feel like the Re-nu brand cleans my contacts very well. Would definitely repurchase.

Packs of Tissues :)
Not sure why I'm including tissue. BUT it is a very necessary thing in Asia! And the brown packaging one is scented, which makes everything awesome!

Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo & Conditioner :)
This is my first time trying a moroccan oil hair product and I love it! It makes my hair so soft! At least in the shower but it is definitely noticeable. Would repurchase for sure!

Laneige Water Sleeping Pack :/
I loveddd the way this product felt on my skin. But I didn't notice any difference when I woke up. I guess I only used it twice and I don't have big problems to fix. Not sure if I would buy more but it was definitely enjoyable to use.

Biore Nose Strip :/
I felt like I didn't really get any blackheads off. Maybe I didn't apply it properly?

Orizee Yuzu & Shiso Hydrating Cream :/
Read my previous review here. It's an okay moisturizing lotion but nothing to rave about.

Bombay Brow Bar Brow Tamer :)
I really like this balm to help hold my brows in place! And it almost acts like a primer too, because the brow powder would always show up more noticeable when I used this wax first.

BBW Hand Sanitizer in Fresh Lavender :)
Hand sanitizer is very important in Asia too! It usually takes me so long to finish one back at home but I went through this super fast! I wish I had another one here.

Tiger Balm :)
I remember using this as a child in China for mosquito bites. Unfortunately this dried out so I had to toss it. But I bought a new one already!

Lastly, I tossed out my make up bag. I think we forget how dirty this gets sometimes. Take a look and see if it's time to toss out yours!

Most of the things I finished this time are products I enjoyed! I'm working hard on finishing a couple makeup products so look out for that :)

Travel Diary: Must See List in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Bali

Two weeks ago was my reading break! I took the opportunity to take a week long trip around Southeast Asia. I managed to hit 3 cities in 11 days and here's a quick summary of each city!

Singapore

Singapore Zoo: One of the best part about Singapore was their Zoo, River Safari, and Night Safari. We were able to see the red panda as well as the giant panda in the river safari! They are SOOOO CUTE!

Sentosa Island was surprisingly beautiful despite its many tourist traps. Most of the attractions on the island required additional fees but we just spent the day walking around without spending a penny! :)

City View: We biked around downtown Singapore to check out the buildings and scenery. The structures are all so creative and interesting!

Overall the city was much more developed and westernized than I thought it would be! There wasn't much of a culture shock although the city has a very rich mix of ethnicity. If you are looking for nightlife, definitely head to Clarke Quay the vibe there is amazing. I think Singapore is the perfect weekend trip to get away! It is best for those who like the city life, amusement parks, and is looking for a more developed southeast Asia destination.

Kuala Lumpur

City Center: We took a walk around the city center to get a feel for the history and the culture but unfortunately most of the mosques were not open to visitors and there was not many tourist attractions around.

Fish Spa: You can find these all over the city but we went to the one in Central Market. For around $5 CAD you can get your feet nibbled on by fish for 15 mins. It was a crazy sensation but it really left my feet smooth afterwards! :)

Petronas Towers: The most iconic landmark of Kuala Lumpur is the twin towers. Over 100 floors high, it dazzles at night and gives off an aura of royalty. It is absolutely gorgeous, must see during the day and night.

Batu Caves: Located an hour away from the city but surprisingly easy and comfortable to get to via the subway system. So glad we made the trip here. A major tourist spot here with a golden statute. After climbing to the cave we also did a tour where we learned about the ecosystems inside a dark cave.

*And if you can tell the difference in quality of pictures. The good ones are from my friend! Thanks Nathan!*

To be honest, I didn't find anything too unique about Kuala Lumpur. I got to try some interesting food items such as fried sting ray! It's an good place to visit for more cultural trips. It doesn't have as much to offer in the form of amusement parks or relaxation.

Bali

Beach + Sunset: On the first day, we arrived just in time to walk on the beach at sunset and oh my goodness. It was the most beautiful thing! We watched the sunset three days in a row and it does not get old.

Watersports: Another thing to do on the beach is to take advantage of the water sports! I was able to take an hour surfing lesson for $10 USD, and go scuba diving for $35USD! Make sure you bargain ;)

Hire a Car: Even though the city is such a popular tourist designation, the actual country is still in the developing phase. Which means cheap labor! We hired a car/driver to take us around for 10 hours for $65 USD. If you are going with a group of friends, it really is affordable! They know all the spots on the island that are famous and you don't have to worry about anything!

Overall, Bali was definitely my favorite city out of the three! I love the beach and water so it was perfect! And everything was so cheap which made it possible to do all sorts of activities. They also have cheap spas and massages too! If you are looking for a relaxing vacation I would definitely recommend a trip to Bali. <3

Have you ever visited any of these places before? Where else should I go in Southeast Asia?
