NYC Challenge: Inspired by Demi Lovato

If you haven't heard yet, Demi Lovato has been named the new Global Brand Ambassador for New York Color Cosmetics! I think this is a great pick for the brand as I always have the impression that Demi is playful, daring, and a total trendsetter.

This month's challenge is for us to recreate a look using Demi Lovato as our inspiration. When I think of her makeup looks, I think of a smokey eye, bronze face, and nude lips. This is the photo I'm using as my inspiration!

First off, I started with my favorite BB cream and did my brows. Demi always has strong perfectly groomed brows. Then I wanted to warm up my face and I used NYC Sun n Bronze in Coney Island Glow in a "3" shape to add color. You can place it slightly higher than where you would normally put your contour.

Next up, NYC came out with these amazing eye pencils! I've never really liked cream products cause I found them a pain to work with but these are so convenient.

NYC City Proof 24 Hr Waterproof Eyeshadow/Printer ($4.99)

I just used the  eyeshadow like a crayon and put the Brooklyn Mocha all over the lid. Then I used my finger to pat the edges to soften up the line. Next, I took the Tribeca Taupe shade and drew it into where I'd normally "contour". I also used my fingers to smudge everything together.

I finished off the eye look with the NYC liquid liner and the NYC Big Bold Volume by the Lash Mascara. The look might not look so daring, but it's a LOT more eye makeup than I would normally wear. (It's always hard to pick up on camera!)

On my lips I'm wearing the NYC Expert Last Satin Matte Lip Color in Smooth Beige ($1.99) and a nude lipgloss on top. The lipsticks had a fantastic formula and a nice satin finish. There's a ton of pretty bright summery colors too so keep an eye out at the NYC counter.

My attempt at the Demi Lovato pose ;)

Overall, I'm super excited about the products that were sent this month! I'm definitely putting one of these eye pencils in my makeup bag for work! I tried washing it off the back of my hand and it stayed on, waterproof check!

Marc Jacobs Lust for Lacquer Lip Vinyl in Kissability

Welcome back! It's been a while since my last post but blame it on work. I've been pulling 12 hour days and all I want to do is fall asleep when I get home. That aside, I'm here to show you a lipgloss that I've been loving recently....Marc Jacobs Lust for Lacquer Lip Vinyl in Kissability
*Phew that was a mouthfull*

I got mine in the Sephora Gimme Some Lips set but the full size product is $34 for .16oz of product. This isn't exactly a steal but that's expected once you slap on "Marc Jacobs".

What they say about it: A champagne grape-infused lip vinyl with a shimmery wash of lust-worthy, sheer-coverage color.

Packaging: The tube is nice and simple in a sleek black and clear packaging. The full size product is similar but it's more of a bullet shape. This lipgloss has a rather unique applicator that I like! It's rounded at the top and quite dense so it is able to apply the color more precisely.

Color: The shade I got is Kissability. It s a mauvy rose with gold shimmer. Honestly, there isn't that much color pay off but what I love is the shine! You seriously get MAJOR shine with this lipgloss! It also covers my liplines some how and just makes my lips look smooth.

After

Texture: It's amazing how this can be so shiny but so not sticky. When you put your lips together, they don't stick at all which is really nice! It's definitely the opposite of MAC lipglosses.

I've read online that people say this smells like vanilla but I think it smells like salty plums. I say that in the best way possible. It reminds me of those asian dried plums for snacks haha. Let me know if you know what I'm talking about haha!!

Overall
I really enjoy the smell and the shine that this lipgloss gives! The cost is quite high but it's definitely a luxury to have!! This sample size didn't have very much product and it was really fast to use up but the full size is much bigger. I'd recommend this if you love a shiny lipgloss and don't mind the sheer color. OH and if you have the money to spare. ;)

MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Look at Her!

When I was cleaning up my makeup at the end of the year, I rediscovered this little baby. MAC Sheen Supreme in Look at Her. This was my FIRST MAC lipstick I've ever owned and probably the first high end lipstick as well. And then I realized it's almost 4 years old and I need to review it and just use it up.

Packaging: It comes in the classic sleek MAC black lipstick tube although the shape is different from the usual. This one is thinner and longer than the original lipstick tubes.

Formula: The Sheen Supreme line is a hybrid of a lipstick and a lipgloss. The lipstick glides on and is really creamy and the color is really shiny. But the downside is that the wear time is shorter. It has the same vanilla scent and the color payoff is medium but this particular shade is quite opaque.

Color: Look at Her is a coppery brown with flecks of gold shimmer. However, don't worry the shimmer isn't gritty at all and it seems to just shine through.

Longevity: 3/5

Overall: 25/30 B+

I haven't done one of these ratings in my reviews for a while! Time to bring it back!

But overall I love this color because it's so unique but at the same time it's hard to get regular use out of it which is why I've had it in my collection for so long! Great formula/scent and classic packaging. However, compared to so many gorgeous lipstick tubes at Sephora, the plain MAC tube comes a bit lagging behind.

Definitely give it a swatch if you are interested in a coppery brown color especially for the summer time!

What are your thoughts on MAC lipsticks? Have anything along the lines of this color?

Best of 2014!

Get ready for a long post! I don't normally do favorites posts but I'm gathering up all the new products I've tried this year and sharing with you what are some of the best products of 2014! I might not have a favorite in certain categories but I tried to cover a range of skincare, body, and makeup!

I still have favorites from previous years so this it not a complete list of all my favorite items, it's just all my NEW favorite items of 2014. So let's get started!

Best in Cleanser:

Absolutely love this cleanser to take my makeup off. This doesn't sting my eyes and really helps to remove all my eye makeup such as eyeliner and mascara! It has such an interesting formula too as you use it on dry skin and it has a cushioning effect.

Best in Skin Care:
Bioderma Hydrabio Serum and Creme*

I have really dry skin and this has really made a difference! Usually after applying moisturizer at night when I wake up in the morning my skin is kind of dry again. But when I use this, I wake up and my skin still has that "bounce". A full review is coming soon!

Best in Hair Care:

I received this in an Influenster box and didn't think I'd like this as much as I would. The conditioner leaves my hair super smooth and the shampoo is quite good too! I would definitely recommend you give this a try it's really affordable too.

Best in Foundation:

I got this BB cream in June and used it all summer! It's quite sheer but I love how it smooths out my skin and it also has SPF!

Best in Lipsticks:
Smashbox Legendary Lipstick in Fig

I received this as a birthday present and I love the color and the formula of this lipstick. It's very pigmented and glides on the lips. See swatch here.

Best in Palettes:
Bare Minerals Magic Act

I wrote about this palette in my Sephora gift set picks. I ended up buying this on sale for $34 which is such an AMAZING deal! This palette would be perfect for travel and I've been using it everyday.

Best in Perfume:

I've never tried a Body Shop perfume before. But I'm really impressed with the scent of this and it's one of the first "warm" scents that I like.

Best in Lashes:
Kiss Ever Ez Lashes

I've never tried Kiss lashes before but they are sooo soft and flexible! The band is also really thin so it's easy to apply and comfortable to wear!

I tried linking to posts that contain the product so you can read more about it. Share your favorites post with me! :)
Thanks for sticking it through! Hope everyone's having a good start to 2014!

In total, I finished 20 makeup products in 2014!! Yay!
Although most are smaller sized products, I'm still really proud of myself!

I threw away quite a few things this year too and you can take a look here. It really feels better to not hang on to so much old stuff.

Also, a quick look at my December empties. Nothing too exciting but I quite liked the L'oreal Youth Code products.
