A German tradition since the 1800’s, Vancouver now has a couple of hot spots which will let you experience Oktoberfest right here at home! Although I’ve never attended the real Oktoberfest, here are a few events in the city that will transport you to the Bavarian culture.
1) Steam Whistle Oktoberfest
Date: Saturday, September 19, 2015
Location: The Vancouver Alpen Club – 4875 Victoria Drive, Vancouver
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Ticket: $30.00 at the door or $25 in advance
If you are looking for an early start to Oktoberfest, this is it! Enjoy authentic German food, entertainment by The Edelweiss Dancers and music from The Rheinlander Band as you hoist your collectible steins (included in ticket price and includes a first free fill). Come dressed in costume as there will be prizes!
2) Harvest Haus
Where: Queen Elizabeth Theatre
Dates: Various
Tickets: $25-$35
If you are looking for something grand andย boisterous, check out Harvest Haus which can pack 1,200 people in their beer hall tent. This will be their second year and will be held in the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. There will be eight seatings over two weekends and each seating is 4 hours long. The tickets are a bit more expensive as you have to buy their stein ($8 additional) but it seems to be the new IT spot for the party crowd.
3) Oktoberfest at Steveston Community Centre
Where: 4111 Moncton Street, Richmond
When: October 2, 2015 6:30pm
Tickets: $35 (includes dinner, stein, and one drink)
If you are looking for some food to go along with your drink, join the Steveston Community Center for dinner, beer, and entertainment. Great for the whole family and the price can’t be beat!
