Vancouver In the Know- Food Events

September 2, 2015

With the sunshine gone, the range of outdoor activities available during the long weekend dramatically shrinks. For those of you who just want to cuddle up in the blanket during the long weekend, here are some happenings at restaurants around the city that doesn’t require being cold or tired (which is how I imagine every hike to be).

1) Irish Heather Long Table Series

On the first and third Monday of September, The Irish Heather will once again host its highly anticipated Long Table Series. This local tradition gathers upwards of 50 diners at its distinctive 40-foot-long communal table to mix, mingle and share their appreciation of classic comfort dishes and well-brewed beers.

For September 7th, the menu is a Chicken Ballantines with roasted pepper, onion, kale and cauliflower puree. The matching beer is the Eastern Czeck Pilsner (Russell Brewing Company). I actually like the look of the menu for September 21st better as it features an oven roasted Steelhead Trout with the White Rabbit Hefeweizen.

Tickets cost $18 each and includes the meal and beer. Taxes and tips are extra. For reservations, email reso@irishheather.com

2) Free Tapas at Salt Tasting Room

Salt Tasting Room is an eatery in Gastown that specializes in meat, cheese and wine. Starting September 8, 2015, they’ve partnered up with Bosa Foods to serve up free tapas!

“I am really curious to see how Vancouver responds to this kind of tapas-style program,” said Sean Heather, owner of Salt Tasting Room. “Will guests come for drinks and accept this kind of free tapas experience – will they embrace the concept the way it’s embraced in Spain?”

Curious foodies who are ready for a taste of San Sebastián can visit Salt Tasting Room, September 8 to October 11, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Guests can order a tasting flight or glass of wine, beer or sherry, and enjoy complimentary tapas to sample Bosa’s new Spanish product line.

3) Seafood Boil at Boulevard

Ever since having Crab Pot in Seattle, I’ve been craving for something similar in Vancouver! You would think since we are so close to the coast that there would be more seafood options available. But unfortunately, nothing was to be found until Boulevard opened earlier this year.At Boulevard, you can participate in a fancy Sunday seafood boil up until September 27, 2015 for $49 per person. The price includes sparkling wine, salad, cornbread, and dessert. The seafood boil itself will have crawfish, jumbo prawns, clams, mussels, dungeness crab, potatoes, and corn.

It sounds absolutely delicious although $49 is quite the price to pay.  It is currently sold out but you can email cgoleski@boulevardvancouver.ca and be added to the waitlist.
