I never really do favorites round ups as I feel like everyone has such different preferences. But for the end of 2016, I'm bringing you my top 6 makeup items of the year! I think I've actually done a full review for each of these products so I will link it below. These are products that really exceeded my expectations and things I've been reaching for constantly this year!

2017 Beauty Blogging Goals

Each year that goes by, I'm amazed at how far my blogging has taken me. Of course, I'm a tiny blog in the grand scheme of things but this has exceeded all my expectations when I started taking photos in my dorm room. Now that the year is almost over, I wanted to create some goals for next year and look back on 2016!

I almost achieved all of my goals in 2016 which included: 1000 followers on Instagram, 100K views on Blogpost, 700 followers on Bloglovin. The only one I'm missing on is 1000 followers on Twitter, and I'm about 8 people away!  I know these are mostly followers based so I'd like to make some more broad goals for 2017.

Subscription Box: Scent Trunk (Customized Fragrance!)

The beauty community is now filled with various subscription boxes all promising something different but end up being the same. I've actually never really signed up for any as I already have a lot of products to work through at home and I rarely see any boxes that I love all of the content. Today though I'm bringing you my experience with a different type of subscription box!

Scent Trunk is set out to create niche cologne/perfume that's customized based on your preference! I had a lot of fun working together with them, and I thought I'd walk you through the experience.

To get started, Scent Trunk sends you their Fit Kit which contains 6 single note fragrances. It's actually free to try with a $4.95 shipping which is amazing value as you can also wear these on it's own. So the scents in these are: Citrus, Woody, Amber, Floral, Chypre, Aromatic. They are very pure smelling and helps to isolate what type of notes you prefer in a perfume.

Products I Want to Finish + Pan that Palette Finale 2016

At the beginning of the year, I made a list of items I wanted to finish  I thought I'd recap and see which ones I actually accomplished. A green tickmark is showing that I finished, a red cross is I've decluttered it out of my collection. An orange cross is decluttered but I made a really good attempt at using it up! Also I've linked reviews to any items I've previously featured on the blog so you can get an indepth look!

Best Stocking Stuffers- Under $20

Can you believe it's only 10 more days until Christmas?! I never thought this year went by fast until December hit. If you are still looking to get a small gift for a best friend, coworker, relative and they are beauty/fashion lovers, check out my four picks below and they are all under $20!

#1 Burt's Bees Kissable Colors Trio- $9.99

Burt's bees are my favorite lip balms and these lip shimmers are interestingly enough some of the first products I reviewed on my blog (do not judge my photos, I've come a long way). They go on smooth and disguises any dry flakes on the lips and have medium pigmentation! All three colors looked great on me and it's packaged in a cute chunky sweater patterned box, all ready for gift giving!

Dermalogica Power Rescue Masque Trio

Let's continue the holiday beauty products with a fun gift set from Dermalogica! The power rescue masque trio contains three masks to purify, sooth, and hydrate the skin. This could not have come at a better time as my skin has been through quite a bit! I found out that I passed the CFE (final exam for CPA) this week and its been 3 continuous days of celebrations.  The excess alcohol and not taking off my makeup properly has led to some stressed skin!

This set retails for $80 and contains
-Charcoal Rescue Mask 38mL
-Multivitamin Power Recovery Mask 38mL
-Skin Hydrating Mask 38mL

The regular size of these masks are 75mL and retails between $58-69. You are saving about $13 in the set but I love that you have three types of masks  for different occasions.

I first used Dermalogica about 4 years ago when my mom brought home some products from the spa she goes to.  I have found Dermalogica products in general to be very effective and actually perform what is claimed. I was really excited to give these three items a try.

Charcoal Rescue Masque- The main benefit of this is to draw out impurities to brighten and smooth lackluster skin. The product is a grey color as expected with some exfoliants inside. It has a minty smell that was pleasant. I kept this on for 7 mins and it tightened the skin. I find with cream masks it's usually a chore to wash it off, this still took a while although not the worst. My skin felt SO SMOOTH and supple afterwards so this was definitely effective.

Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque- This mask is aimed to rejuvenate photodamaged skin to reduce visible signs of skin aging. I don't have too many concerns with aging skin but it's never too early to protect right? There was a hint of banana scent in this mask and it was a very smooth texture. It applied easily and does not dry down as you keep it on your skin. It also resulted in such supple, clear, and smooth skin. I love it so much!

Skin Hydrating Masque- I haven't used this one yet but it will come in handy this winter as I have very dry skin. This mask is meant to relieve excess dryness and reduces visible dehydration lines. It is a clear gel texture and I didn't notice any scent.

I usually like to do sheet masks as a relaxation but they are usually not that effective. These masks really make a huge difference in your skin in just 10 mins. I would highly highly recommend trying out this set if you want to have some instant pick me ups in your skincare cabinet.

You can find other limited edition Dermalogica holiday sets online!

Fresh Lip Entourage Set- Holiday Gift

Last month, I shared with you guys the Fresh Skincare Treasures Set. Today, I have photos of the Sugar Lip Entourage set! For those who like taking an extra step with their lip care, you will love this set! The set retails for $58 and has a value of $78!

The box is in a pretty pink/red/gold design that makes it clear it's a festive present. On one side, there is a large bow and you can pull on it to drag out the tray. The box is quite sturdy so I've already repurposed it as an over flow makeup storage box!

The five products included in this kit are:
- Sugar Nourishing Lip Balm Advanced Therapy  3g
 - Sugar Lip Polish 8g
 - Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment in Nude 2.2g
 - Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment in Rosé  2.2g
 - Sugar Lip Serum Advanced Therapy 5mL

None of these are full size but will last you quite a while even with daily use!

If you haven't tried fresh lip balms before, the texture is very different from your traditional lip balm! They are a lot softer and creamier. You can feel a thicker layer on your lips but it's not sticky in any way. It's a really nice formulation especially when your lips are dry. They also contain SPF and smells delicious.

Rose on the left and Nude on the right

I've tried the Rose shade several times already as it seems to be in a lot of Sephora kits! I remember thinking it was too pigmented but actually now that I tried it again, I find it to be just a hint of pink which is quite pretty for every day.

I was really excited to try the Nude shade as it looked deeper with a brown tone which was promising. However, I think it's still a bit too light for me and slightly washes me out. It is a peachy nude shade with a slight golden shimmer.

I really enjoyed the lip serum during nights when my lips were so chapped! There's suppose to be anti-aging properties which is difficult to detect. But the serum itself is silky and smooth. It feels very nourishing and moisturizing!

The Nourishing Lip Balm was nice but I really dislike lip balm in a pot. I feel like I'd need to wash my hands before applying each time which would be quite inconvenient!

The Sugar Lip Polish is a cult favorite and for good reason. It smells so delicious (sweet lemons) that I have to resist very hard not to lick it up! It helps to remove dead skin and increase blood flow so you are left with plump smooth lips!

Overall this is great value as fresh rarely ever have items on sale! It'll give you all the tools you need for a flake free lip during the winter season! You can find this set at Sephora in store and online!

Black Friday Haul 2016: Aritzia, Indigo, Sephora

Black Friday was only a week ago but it feels like a long time has passed. I didn't necessarily buy these on Black Friday but it was all on sale around that time! Although you probably can't get these deals anymore, you can create some wishlists for Boxing Day or it's never to late to make a wishlist for next year!

Aritzia
This year, Aritzia had a Black Five-day sale that ran from Thursday (Thanksgiving)- Monday (Cyber Monday). There were a select amount of fall/winter items at 50% off . I'm glad not all the sale items were crazy and they even had blanket scarves too! The rest of the store had sales around 10-30% off which is also good if you were just stocking up on a particular design.

Haul + First Impressions: Chloe Morello x Ciate Set

There's not a lot of new makeup I feel like I need in my life, but when I saw this holiday set, I knew I wanted it during the Sephora sale! I believe it's now sold out on Sephora but you can still get your hands on it on Ciate's website.

You may know Chloe Morello from Youtube and her signature look is halo eyes with matte lips. I feel like this set really allows you to achieve her style. It comes with a pouch, a lip stain, a mascara, and an eyeshadow palette with 15 shades. I've been using this set every day since I got it about 1.5 weeks ago so I'll be showing some swatches and my first impressions.

Vancouver in the Know: Staycation Ideas 2016

During the holiday times, it feels like every one is taking vacation. But with the crazy high prices, and cold weather in Canada, it may be better to take that money and have a staycation! My idea of a good staycation is splurging on something I wouldn't normally do. If you take the $150 you would spend on any basic hotel, it would get you a whole lot of fun in the city!

Check out my suggestions below and let me know if you have any good staycation ideas for Vancouver!

Luxury Winter Wonderland at Reflections

Reflections is the roof top bar at Hotel Georgia and is usually only open during the summer time. This year, they are transforming the area into a winter wonderland with holiday menus and cozy decor! I've always wanted to go in the summer but actually never visited as the drink prices are a bit out of my usual budget ($14-$16). However, if this is part of my staycation, this would be an amazing spot to splurge and enjoy a weekend out!

This is the first time that Reflections has done this, so don't miss out! They are unveiling their new look today and it will be open all the way until December 30. There will be Christmas trees, mistle toes, candles, and lots of heat lamps! I went with the media preview on a rainy night and I'm happy to report that I stayed toasty and dry!

Body Products for Winter! OGX + BVSpa + Mary Kay

Now that it's almost winter time, I really need to step up my body care as I have very dry skin! If you are starting to get flaky, make sure to spend some time after every shower to moisturize head to toe. There's a lot of new products that came out recently so I've rounded up new releases from OGX, BVSpa and Mary Kay to share some new body products for winter!

I love OGX hair care products and was so excited to hear that they are coming out with a body collection. The Argan Oil and the Biotin hair care collections are some of my favorite! I'm sure many of you have seen OGX in the hair care aisle before.

Introducing Fusion Beauty! Hair Growth Brow and Mascara?

One of the best things about blogging is discovering new products so it's always exciting when I introduce new brands to the blog! And today will be my first review of Fusion Beauty products! I've known them as the brand that sells the lash serum that stimulates lash growth. But they've slightly branched out and also created a few makeup products.

Fresh Skincare Treasures Set

There's still time in the Sephora VIB sale! I'm sure many of you have already loaded up your cart and made some orders. But I'm here for a last minute recommendation on a holiday set by Fresh! This is the Skincare Treasures Set and contains 5 items to try out.

Fresh is very well known for their sugar lip balms and also their skincare. Usually the products are pretty expensive so the holiday sets are a great time to try out the brand at a better value.

The set features a soy face cleanser, a sugar rose lip balm, a sugar face polish, and the lotus youth preserve face cream and eye cream. The outside packaging features a blue and gold lace detailing and a clear plastic casing so you can see the products. It would make a fantastic splurgey present! I'm now reusing the box as a storage container. The set costs $90CAD with a value of $119.  With 20% off, the set is only $72!

New Products from GOSH: Review & Demo

If you've ever shopped at Shoppers, you might have noticed Gosh Cosmetics. It's a brand exclusive to Shoppers but with it's sleek black packaging, it can get lost in the aisles. Also, I'm surprised there's so little talk on the internet about them as they have some really decent stuff! A bunch of new products are added to their core collection, so I'm here today to give an overview!

Forever 21 Haul- Fall Fashion under $100

Recently I won a $100 gift card to Metrotown from Modern Mix Van (go check them out!). I wanted to get some new fall fashion pieces and wanted to get the most bang for my buck! I found a lot of pieces online at F21 that I liked in the sale section, but since it's final sale, I wanted to try in stores first.

At Metrotown, the F21 sale section is a gongshow! Items are so squished that you can't even move anything around. I quickly gave up after I found 2 tops that I liked and decided to just take a gamble and bought a gift card to spend the rest of my money online. But boy, I have learned my lesson.

Korres Skin Care: Wild Rose + Castanea Arcadia Collection

Korres is a really well known skincare brand that focuses on natural ingredients. No one can really pronounce Korres but I'll go with kor-rez. I remember wanting to try the brand but Sephora pulled them a few years ago. Now it's back at Shoppers Drug Mart and I'm excited to share with you some products that are new to the brand.

The Korres Wild Rose collection is one of their best sellers and this year they came out with two new items to supplement the collection.

Empties 2016 #4 August-October

It's been so long since I've done an empties post! I have a ton of goodies to show today. I can't believe there's only 2 more months in 2016. Where does the time go?? I'll be working extra hard on finishing up some more product before the year is up. But let's get on to what I've been collecting for the past 3 months.

MAKEUP

-Revlon Mascaras :/ I did a full review post on these earlier this year. I like the red and pink mascara the best. The red I finished up is in blackened brown so I can't wait to use the same in blackest black which will produce even better results!

-Joe Fresh Lash Focus Mascara :) I love this one so much! It creates the biggest lashes and really
opens up my eyes.

Fall Lookbook ft. Sanuk Sidewalk Surfers

I'm admittedly no fashion expert as I tend to stay with the basics such as tank + cardigan + jeans combo. However, I've been following a lot more fashion blogs recently and watching "how to style" videos on Youtube. It gave me motivation to adventure and try out seasonal trends. This post was made in collaboration of Sanuk shoes so I've put together a fall lookbook featuring three different outfits.

Travel Diary: Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero Resort Review

Entrance to the Sanctuary

Recently, I went on a one week vacation to Varadero, Cuba with my friend. When we were looking at what resort to stay in, I didn't find much information on the internet so I thought I'd help fill the void with a review of the Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero. The biggest question that was asked on TripAdvisor is "Is it worth it to pay the extra?"

The Sanctuary is the Adult Only section of the Grand Memories resort in Varadero. Prices are usually $200-$300 higher than the general grand memories resort for one person for a one week all inclusive. For reference, we paid $1280 each including flight from Vancouver. This section of the resort has it's own pool, restaurant, lounge, lobby, and section of the beach.

So let's see if it's worth the extra cost!

Breakfast in Bed #bedface Contest- Inspired by Avocado

Earlier this year, my boyfriend moved down to Seattle and moved out for the first time. I had so much fun helping him pick out furniture and home decorations. I can definitely feel it'll be an interest of mine once I move in.

Recently, I heard about bedface which is a company founded in Vancouver that sells high quality, customizable bed sheets. They are having a fall contest to create a recipe and blog post inspired by the names of some of the fall sleep sets. I choose Avocado as I liked the color scheme AND avocados are delicious in any breakfast!

Joe Fresh Highlighter Powder in Champagne Review and Swatches

Creating a beautiful highlight has been all the rage in the beauty community in the past year. The girls on Instagram have the most beautifully sculpted cheeks but would likely blind someone in public. I've been testing out some different highlighters and will be sharing a review each week this month. First up is this highlighter powder from Joe Fresh!

Basics
Name: Joe Fresh Highlighter Powder in Champagne
Shade: 2 Shades
Price: $8CAD

I did  a quick impressions on the Joe Fresh brand earlier this year when it first released at Shoppers. Now, I've had a bit more time to play with this highlighter for a full review.

Revlon Eyes, Cheeks + Lips Palette in 200 Seductive Smokies

It's not often you see palettes at the drugstore, and much less all in one palettes. This is one of the first products I picked out to test from my large #LDBeauty pile. This relatively slim and compact palette includes 6 eyeshadows, 1 blush, 2 lipsticks, 2 lipglosses, and 2 brushes. There are three combinations available and I have 200 Seductive Smokies.

Halloween Ready with Kiss Nails

Can you believe it's October already?! That means it's almost time for Halloween. I never have good ideas for costumes but I do like putting in little details in my makeup, hair, and nails to join in the festivities. Here are some picks from Kiss products that will bring chills and thrills to your beauty game!

#QuoFallCollection Review and Swatches: Good, Bad, Repeat

I've been covering Quo collections for a few seasons now. The fall release features packaging with a purple scalloped leaves theme. The fall collection is pretty similar in previous releases that there is an eyeshadow palette, face palette, eyebrow powder. I prefer seasonal collections to come out with all new products/designs so I was a bit disappointed to see some repeats. But there are still a couple of products that caught my eye so read on!

5 Lipsticks to Try for Fall 2016

Vancouver's dreary weather makes me really wish to get summer back! But one good thing about fall is switching up my lipstick game! Luckily there's been a ton of new releases on the market. I've pulled together a variety of shades and finishes for the top 5 lipsticks to try out in Fall 2016!

Shoppers Drug Mart Top Picks #SDMTopPicks

Shoppers Drug Mart is where I started all of my beauty adventures. I remember going to Shoppers to browse the makeup and personal care aisles even in elementary school. This fall, Shoppers created a list of Top Picks to introduce some of the best sellers, new finds, and hidden gems on their shelves. It's also an opportunity to score some big bonus Optimum points! I was so excited to be contacted to work together on their Top Picks opportunity.

Mary Kay Fall 2016 Collection Full Review & Swatches

Mary Kay is an iconic makeup brand but I've always associated it with telemarketers and never gave them a second look.  Although I'm not much of a fan of multi-level marketing, I was intrigued to test out the products. They launched quite a few new products from their Fall 2016 collection and I've found a couple of items I really like!

The Fall 2016 collection is called Runway Bold and features intense shadows, metallic liners and high gloss lacquers.

Mary Kay Eye Color Palette- $26

There are five shades in this palette in a mix of gold and blue. There's been so many neutral palettes released recently so I was excited to see something so different. All of the shades are extremely pigmented! However all of the shades are shimmery or glittery so it's difficult to complete a full look for every day use. Also because the shadows contain so much glitter and shimmer, it's not as creamy to the touch and I did experience some fall out during application.

I love the bold color combinations and awesome pigmentation. But a couple of points deducted for fall out during application and needing to add in other shadows to complete a look.

Must Have Fall Outerwear (Trench, Rain, Leather)

Vancouver weather is always super unpredictable so it's good to get the fall jackets out nice and early. I actually had this post idea last year but didn't have enough time to find the links and photos to put it together. So I want to make sure this gets out before fall really hits.

Here are my top picks on must haves and some links to where you can find alternatives!

1) Trench Coat

Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer in Medium Light Review

Urban Decay is one of my favorite high end brands and the Naked palette and the Naked foundation are two of my holy grail items! I've heard tons of hype about the Naked Skin concealer so I bought this last year when I wanted to experiment with new concealers.

On a side note, have you heard about Urban Decay's new store in Metrotown?! It's the first free standing store in Canada so be sure to check it out if you are shopping at Metrotown.

Almay Age Essentials Concealer Review in 300 Medium

Can you believe it's now September?! We got treated to a month of sunshine in Vancouver but as soon as September came, it's back to rain and clouds. September is also back to school and new jobs for a lot of people. So I thought it was appropriate to review concealers for this month.

Teeez Cosmetics is an European beauty brand that recently launched in Canada exclusively at Hudson's Bay. Ever since I saw the first news releases, I knew I had to get my hands on them. The brand is focused on fashion and innovation and you can see that coming through in the packaging.

It's currently only available at 7 Hudson's Bay stores but you can find them online at thebay.com. The pricing ranges between $15-$35 for most makeup items so it's in line with other mid range brands at Sephora or department stores. Burt's Bees Lip Crayons- Hawaiian Smolder + Niagara Overlook

Burt's Bees is synonymous with holy grail lip balm for me. I've also tried their tinted lip balms and shimmer lip balms and loved them all! They released lip crayons about 2 years ago but this is the first time I'm trying them. The first thing I noticed is that it's 100% natural which is such an amazing feat.
