Mascara Round Up: Best and Worst

I never realize when my mascaras start to pile up, but I recently went around grabbing mascaras from all corners of my life and I ended up with a huge pile I could never use up! In this post, I'll give a brief review of all the mascaras that I currently have and then make a list of the best and worst mascaras I've ever tried!

Let's get started!

Kiss New York Professional Dead Sexy Mascara Review

Today I have another mascara review from Kiss New York Professional which just launched at London Drugs! I really enjoy reviewing mascaras as you can see objectively how it lengthens in photos and most people want the same things in a mascara- big long clump free lashes! This makes it easier than say reviewing lipsticks when people desire different things.

Basics
Name: Kiss New York Professional Dead Sexy Mascara- Lengthening & Define
Shade: Blackest Black (2 shades)
Price: 12.49
Size: 13g
Available at London Drugs

I'm a big fan of Kiss lashes and their press on nails, so I was very interested in seeing their full makeup line. Although they are affiliated, the Kiss New York Professional is a completely different brand with their own image. Their motto is #beyourownpro and offers a complete selection of shades  so you can create bold looks.

This mascara is meant for lengthening and defining so I guess I should have known it wouldn't create the biggest lashes. But I've always wondered why someone would purposely use a mascara that wouldn't give the biggest impact.

The packaging is in a very simple black tube similar to all their other products. They are definitely going for a makeup artist look with a black and white color scheme.

The brush head is actually flexible, as you can see in the photo above. I find this helps me to really get in the lashes and wiggle the brush around. However, I'm not as big of a fan of rubber bristles, I find they just end up poking me. The brush has a ball tip at the end for getting in the corners and also separating. I'm starting to see this as a common trend in mascaras nowadays!

The mascara definitely did a good job defining! I would have wanted a bit more length as well but I found that my lashes dried crunchy so it was hard to put on a second coat. It didn't quite give me the really big lashes I was hoping for, but it is decent for every day.

However, the price is a lot higher than other drugstore mascaras that could do a comparable job. I'm also okay with paying more for a product if it has a luxurious factor or really cool packaging which unfortunately is not true for this product.

Mascara Ratings

Big lashes: 3/5
Blackness: 5/5
No clumping: 5/5
No flaking/smudging: 4/5
Lashes feel fluffy: 4/5
Value: 3/5

Overall 24/30    B

As you can see, it still did a decent job and my lashes look quite good! However, I think there are better options at the drugstore for slightly less, or you can spend a bit more for a luxurious experience. The price point is kind of stuck in the middle but without the results to show for it. This one is a pass for me.

Covergirl So Lashy Blast Pro Mascara Review

Mascaras are really easy to pile up and all of a sudden I realized I had 15+ mascaras lying around! So I thought I would do a round up of all my favorites (past and present). But before that, I wanted to review a couple more mascaras including this one from Covergirl. I just got my hands on this a few weeks ago and I believe it's still relatively new to the drugstore as well.

Basics
Name: Covergirl So Lashy Blast Pro
Shade: Extreme Black (5 shades), also available in Waterproof
Price: ~$9
Size: 13mL
Available at most drugstores

The packaging is in a classic Covergirl rounded tube format that reminds me of the Lash Blast days! What's special about this mascara is the 3 in 1 brush which claims to shape, mold and build lashes regardless of lash type. The brush design is pretty interesting with 4 distinct sides. Two of the sides feature a single row of curved bristles while the other two sides feature 2 rows of straight bristles. Then there's a ball tip that spikes out in all directions.

I found that I couldn't get much grip when I'm using this mascara. The brush itself has pretty short bristles and I feel like I can't grab my lashes well and it just kind of glides over. Also because the bristles are short, I feel like it's really easy to smudge my eyelid and undereye with the other sides of the bristles.

The color is quite a strong black and the formula is the perfect consistency. I just don't feel like I get enough control and ability to grip the lashes to build it up to as long as I want it to. It does the job but I prefer the Covergirl Total Tease mascara over this.

pixi + ITSJUDYTIME Eyeshadow Palette Review + Swatches

I know that neutrals eyeshadows have been out in the market for some time, but this is probably the most versatile and high quality palette I've tried in a long time! If you haven't heard the news yet, pixi is now available in Canada! I would describe the brand as having a line up of products that lets you achieve a polished fresh faced look.

They recently released a few products in collaboration with big Youtubers and this eyeshadow palette was done with ITSJUDYTIME. The quote from her on the back of this palette was "I love having just one go-to eyeshadow palette for all occasions! This one contains all my favorite colours and effortlessly takes me from day to night". Although I've never really followed her, I have heard she puts a lot of time and effort into her videos and gives thoughtful reviews.

Stila One Step Primer and One Step Correct Review

I feel like this is the year of the primers as every brand seems to be coming out with more variations. I have personally been loving wearing primers without foundation as it provides a sticky base for other powder products to stay!  I have dry skin so I love that primers these days have been trending towards the moisturizing texture instead of the silicone texture. Today I have two new primers from Stila to introduce to you!

NYX Lip Lingerie Review & Swatches

NYX has so many cult favorite lip products, and I finally got the chance to try their Lip Lingerie line! There are 24 shades of nudes and these are the perfect products to get that Kardashian full lip look! I have two shades today that I will show you swatches of and review the formula of the product!

The packaging is in a classic clear tube with a black cap. It's a pretty classic NYX design that's simple and black and white. The applicator is a sponge tip that is typical of liquid lipsticks. The first thing I noticed was that these are highly pigmented! Even the light shade had full coverage over my lips. I have pretty pigmented lips so I was very impressed by how these colors showed up.

Zoella Beauty - Jelly & Gelato

If you watch beauty videos, you most likely have heard of Zoella. I swear when I first started reading beauty blogs in high school circa 2009, I followed her blog when she only had a few thousand followers! Or I'd like to think I "knew about her before she's famous". She now has 11 million followers on Instagram, ah!

Anyways, she now has her own beauty line and the Jelly & Gelato collection launched in July 2017 and is available in Canada! There are 8 bath products and one matching makeup bag. I actually like that it's such a small range as I feel each product is quite different. I was sent the Shower Cream, the Shower Gel, and the Bath Wafers for testing!
