Back to School Essentials

September 7, 2017

Although it’s been a few years since I’ve been back to school, the start of September always makes me feel like it’s time for a new beginning.
Today I am creating a very simple every day look using all drugstore products! If you are looking for an affordable range of makeup, these are the products you need to have in your collection! All of these items are student budget friendly and perfect for those 5 minute morning routines!

Maybelline MasterPrime in 300- Blur + Redness Control
For the mornings when I wake up with even looking skin, I skip the foundation and go straight to primer. This is more of a lotion formula and feels like a facial moisturizer with a slight slick finish. I do find it actually helps with redness and I like to put this on so my other cheek products will stick.

I usually apply this just with my fingers and let it dry for about 30 seconds before putting any powder products on top of it.

Covergirl Vitalist Elixir Foundation
This is the summer foundation that I’ve been waiting for! I wanted something that had a light coverage with SPF and this was perfect for my needs. The foundation has a pump which helps to make it more hygienic. I like that the foundation feels moisturizing so it may be best suited for those with dry skin. It dries with a satin finish and although it’s not super long lasting, I do find it gets me throughout the day.

NYX Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powder
I remember the days before contouring and highlighting when all you need was a blush. This NYX Duo blush is the coolest color as it looks like a rosy plum but when you turn your head to catch the light you get this gorgeous iridescent glow. If I apply this color a bit lower on my cheeks, I also get a bit of a shaping effect as the color is darker.

Revlon Scandaleyes Bold Liquid Eyeliner
To wake up the eyes, a black liquid eyeliner is the way to go! You can also put on a basic brown eyeshadow, but to save time I find eyeliner gives the bigger impact. This one from revlon has a felt tip that’s slightly flexible and I thought could be good for beginners. It’s easy to go light hand to get a thin cat eye tip, but also easy to press down and get a bold line. I find this lasts all day without smudging!

Covergirl Total Tease Mascara

I’ve been trying lots of mascaras recently and this one is my favorite! The formula is just the perfect balance between dry and wet. The wand is quite unique as it has a ball at the ends but I like to just use the length of the wand. It gives me nicely separated lashes, good lengthening, good curls and holds up well all day. I don’t experience any smudging or flaking and it’s just an all around great mascara!

NYX Lip Lingerie in Seduction
Lastly we have the lips. If you are going for a brown fall lip trend, look no further than Seduction from NYX. The formula feels like a mousse and goes on very pigmented! It also stays on really well through eating and drinking. Lastly, this makes your teeth look whiter, whoo!

NYX Butter Gloss in Apple Strudel
If you are looking for just a sheer wash of color, the NYX butter gloss adds shine and moisturization to the lips. This shade is a milky pink on the lips and feels comforting to wear.

So that’s my round up of all my current favorite drugstore products! What’s your back to school look like? Have you discovered any drugstore gems recently?

Here's what I found from Ragtag in Japan!! 🤩🤩
I've definitely had my eye on a Dior piece and it's extra special that this design is a Japan exclusive.
I have to say, second hand designer shopping is a lot harder than I remembered! There are SO many stores now, I probably visited 20+ and the prices are not so cheap anymore 🤧🤧
.
A similar card holder from Dior is probably $600 CAD + tax. I got this one for ~$350 CAD. It's in excellent condition but there was no dust bag nor box.

📍 Ragtag, Shinseibashi, Osaka
We made it on the kyo-train garaku by Hankyu and I We made it on the kyo-train garaku by Hankyu and I'd highly recommend boarding this train if you're transiting between Osaka and Kyoto. ❤️‍🔥🌸
No reservations are required and the fare is just the basic fare (approximately $4!) 🚅
Check online for the most updated timetable but the most current is
9:32, 11:32, 13:32, and 15:32 leaving Osaka for Kyoto!
We showed up 30 minutes before boarding and was the first ones for car 5. Car 3 seems to be the most popular for the cherry blossoms!
Forget your eyeshadow palettes! This little single Forget your eyeshadow palettes! This little single eyeshadow from merit is all I need! 💚
I've been using this a lot on my vacation and it stays on amazingly well all day even with the humidity.
I went for a more unique shade but all the basic browns and neutrals are available too!
.
Would you swap your current eyeshadow for this?
