Maybelline Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter in Molten Gold 100 Review

November 26, 2017

I am a big fan of the Maybelline brand as I find they are one of the more affordable brands at the drugstore but always coming out with super on trend products and shades. New this year, I am reviewing the Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter in Molten Gold.

Basics

Name: Maybelline Masterchrome Metallic Highlighter
Shade: 1 Shade- 100 Molten Gold
Price: $9.99
Size: 8.9g
Available at your local drugstore

Packaging: I love the detail Maybelline put into the embossed design in the highlighter as it feels very high end. The lid gives a satisfying click when clsoed and the product is the perfect size to fit in your hands. The only issue I have is that it’s very hard to open, there is no indentation to stick a finger nail in and you kind of have to just grip the lid and the bottom to open.

Shade: Molten Gold is pretty true to its name giving off a golden glow. There is not too much brown in it so it’s definitely wearable even for those with light skintones. The glow you get is both reflective and from glitters. Those with more oily skins might have better staying power but on my dry skin, the glitter does travel during the day.

Formula: The highlighter is extremely soft and creamy to the touch. It does need a liquid or cream foundation for it to stick on to, at least on my dry skin. I was really surprised with a name like Chrome Metallic, that the glow was pretty natural. Using a brush, the pigmentation I get is even weaker and ends up being a more subtle glow on my cheeks. I’ve been using an angled foundation brush to apply as it’s more dense and can pick up more product.

Before and After. You can see the light glow that I’m getting but it’s definitely not metallic.

I really wanted to like this as it’s the type of shades I love in highlighters. However, it is not metallic enough and there’s too much glitter in this for me. It seems like everyone online really loves it so maybe I have a dud?
