5 Lip Products to Try this Summer

May 31, 2018

Recently I put together a guide to the Best Cheek Products for Spring! It was so much fun digging through my products and I hope you guys found it helpful too. I wanted to create a round up of some new lip products that have really impressed me! Since glossy lips are finally back, I wanted to share 5 lip products to try this summer! I picked a variety of summer appropriate shades and finishes that will take you through all occasions.

Givenchy Gloss Interdit Vinyl in 01 Rose Revelateur – $37

Available at Sephora

I wanted to start off with the almost clear gloss that can work for any occasion or on top of other products. With the trend in recent years for intense full color lip products, it’s surprisingly hard to find a clear gloss these days. What I like about the Givenchy Gloss Interdit Vinyl is that it looks clear in the tube but turns a slightly different pink on everyone. The product reacts to your own skin chemistry to turn into a flattering color. As you can see, the tube is now slightly pink where as it was completely clear when I first got it. The gloss is not sticky at all and gives off a beautiful shine. The packaging includes immense attention to detail including a “G” shaped applicator and 3D ribbon logo on the lid.

marimekko for Clinique Pop Splash Lip Gloss in 13 Juicy Apple – $24

Available at Clinique

This product adds a splash more color that’ll complement the rest of your makeup. Although it looks extremely bright and intimidating in the tube, the color pay off is quite sheer and adds the perfect amount of color and shine. Clinique is such a popular brand but surprisingly I’ve only tried their cheek pop blush! I like that this lip gloss is really small so it’s easy to fit into my purses. The marimekko collaboration added fun prints on the cap which makes it a bit more unique than normal Clinique packaging. If this design/color doesn’t quite suit your taste, there’s actually 20 shades in this collection all with different cap designs! The lipgloss is a bit more sticky so I wouldn’t use it if it was windy or being more active. However, the stickiness is more to the touch if you feel it with your fingers/hair. On the lips, the product is weightless and I’ve never felt any discomfort.

Paul & Joe April in Paris Collection Lipstick – $32

Available at Beauty Bay (lipstick case and lipstick bullet)

If you like to customization, you have to get to know Paul & Joe. All of their lipsticks are sold by the case and bullet. This way, you can change up the case without the color or vice versa. I chose this product to try this summer because of the flattering color but also the whimsical design of the lipstick case. I often put my lip products in front of my computer at work and seeing this packaging makes me smile. The product has a light scent which reminds me of old school makeup products but it’s faint enough that it’s not irritating. If you check out the photos of this lipstick before it was used, you’ll see it also has a beautiful embossed flower at the tip.

MAC Lustre Lipstick in See Sheer – $23

Available at MAC

I remember when MAC was the golden standard of makeup and I saved up to build my little collection of MAC lipsticks. In recent years though, there’s so much competition in the mid-range market that I’ve forgotten about MAC and their consistent quality of lipsticks. I had enough products to Back to Mac, and decided to choose a very werable shade instead of all the crazy colors I used to get. See Sheer is a medium toned brown red. But since it’s a lustre finish, it doesn’t have full pigmentation and is a light wash of color. I used to only choose creamsheen finishes from MAC but I really enjoyed this finish. There wasn’t any metallic or glitter and the finish is actually quite similar to a creamsheen except without the full impact color.

YSL Tatouage Couture Matte Stain in Nude Emblem – $43

Available at YSL

Lastly, for those occasions requiring a more bold lip, I chose this liquid lipstain to try. For the ultimate luxury in lipsticks, YSL wins by a landslide. I actually completely finished my very first YSL lipstick which I bought for myself after finishing my summer internship. I don’t really like most lipstains but what makes this one different is the applicator and the finish. The applicator is very flexible and glides along your lips effortlessly. Additionally, the point of the applicator hits my cupid’s bow and follows the outlines of my lips perfectly. I find the application of most lip stains to be very time consuming, but I can apply this one very easily. The texture of this lipstain is also more liquidy and when dried down, it doesn’t settle into my lip lines. I think this would be a fantastic color to wear to summer weddings, dinner parties or any other special events.

Hellllooo fall! 🍂🍁 In just a few weeks, the Hellllooo fall! 🍂🍁

In just a few weeks, the leaves are going to be golden red at Trout Lake!! 🤩😍. What are your favorite fall foliage spots in Vancouver?
Editing this post made MY MOUTH WATER!! 🤤🤤 Editing this post made MY MOUTH WATER!! 🤤🤤

Here are the best things I ate in Japan - restaraunt edition! (do you want to see one for snacks? or do you want to see a worst things I ate in Japan?)
Prices of the specific dish listed below.

1. Kanoko, try their special green tea infused soba or normal soba. I loved the dashi and tempura. Perfect lunch option for after visiting the tori gates. 1,300 Yen 🍜

2. Okonomiyaki Sakaba, you can pick the inside filling and a lot of the options were meat based. The sauce on top is delicious and you may be surprised the inside is mostly cabbage and not flour. 1,000 Yen🍥

3. Udon Bo Osaka, I tried out a cold dipping udon and it was excellent! They have a special yuzu sauce and the tempura is amazing too. 1,250 Yen 🍤

4. Roast Beef Ohno, the most affordable way to eat wagyu! Loved the sauces and nice side veggie dishes too. 1,750 Yen 🥓

5. Fuunji, flavorful dipping ramen with a vending machine to order! 1,400 (with egg + bamboo add on)🍱

6. Maguro Koya, holy crap I'm addicted to Ootoro now. So glad we splurged and got the double portion. We also tried the chutoro sashimi to compare cuts. 3,200 Yen 🍣

Hope this provides some delicious inspo for the best food in Japan!
Here's what I found from Ragtag in Japan!! 🤩🤩
I've definitely had my eye on a Dior piece and it's extra special that this design is a Japan exclusive.
I have to say, second hand designer shopping is a lot harder than I remembered! There are SO many stores now, I probably visited 20+ and the prices are not so cheap anymore 🤧🤧
.
A similar card holder from Dior is probably $600 CAD + tax. I got this one for ~$350 CAD. It's in excellent condition but there was no dust bag nor box.

📍 Ragtag, Shinseibashi, Osaka
