You might recognize Laneige from their famous water sleeping mask and skincare products. But did you know they also do makeup? True to Korean beauty trends (do you know about ombre lips yet?), Laneige is introducing a BB Cushion foundation with SPF 50 to North America. Perfect for the summer time, the Laneige BB Cushion Hydra Radiance provides a glowy finish and sun protection. I’ll show you how it wears on my face and all the details to help you decide whether you should pick this up!
Basics

Packaging
The Laneige BB Cushion comes in a pretty standard compact with a plastic lid that separates the puff and the product. I like that there is a full sized mirror so I can easily bring this with me on the go and use the compact to apply my makeup. When you first pull the compact out of the packaging, there is a seal on top of the actual product. This was really nice to see as the product feels more sanitary and it also keeps the product moist for longer! Additionally, you also get a refill as part of your purchase which really doubles the value of this foundation!
The lid snaps close firmly and I don’t ever worry about it opening up if I toss it in my purse. The puff does get dirty pretty fast and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I think I’ll wash it as I find this product in particular works best with the puff and not as well with a foundation brush or sponge.
On a side note, I always feel super posh and proper when I dab on foundation on a puff. You can fit either two or three fingers in the puff strap and this is the best way to use it for dabbing the product onto your skin.
Formula
The Laneige BB Cushion Hydra Radiance aims to deliver a natural coverage with radiance and hydration. The top of the product features a diamond weave which adds presentation interest but also helps to distribute the product. To use with the applicator puff, simply press down and then twist to get product. I find if you gently tap at the product, you won’t be able to pick up much. You have to actually press down and then twist to get a good amount to then dab on your face.
It is a very weightless finish and although it provides a glow, I don’t feel oily or sticky at all on my skin. I’ll show you in the demo photos below, it does a great job of evening out the skin but it is a light coverage product so it won’t completely hide any spots or imperfections. I love that it has SPF50 so I don’t have to apply a separate sunscreen (for days when I’m just sitting in an office at work). It doesn’t quite wear all day but you can improve the wear by misting a makeup setting spray on top or bring this with you to touch up. I don’t do that as I have blush/highlighter on top so it’s a bit harder to touch up on the go.
Shade
The shade I have is in the middle of the range. This is awesome news as usually BB creams are only suited for those with light skin. The six shades that are offered still won’t cover all skin tones but at least it’s a good start! Additionally, with lower coverage face products, you can get away with using a shade that’s slightly off as you can blend it out. No.23 Sand looks pretty dark in the pan but is actually quite light when applied. I would say it’s on the light-medium side with a slight yellow undertone. It currently matches my cheeks perfectly but is too light for my forehead area. In the swatch photo, my hands are quite dark so the product looks extra light. It is probably comparable to NC20-25 in MAC.
Laneige BB Cushion Hydra Radiance Before & After
Here is a before and after of using the Laneige BB Cushion Hydra Radiance. I thought it did a fantastic job filling in my pores and evening out the redness on my cheeks. The coverage is pretty light so it did not cover up any of my moles or scarring that I have. It’s totally okay with me as I prefer a more natural coverage. It does crease a bit near the nose area so I try not to build too much product in that area.
I think this product is fantastic value as you get a full size refill with your purchase! The packaging is designed perfectly so you can take it with you on the go or traveling. No. 23 would be a good starting point for medium Asian skin (light-medium in the absolute scale) but there are 3 deeper shades to choose from which is amazing! If you are looking for an every day foundation that will even out your skin, this is a fantastic option with sun protection.
