In the world of beauty blogging, we are often only talking about our favorite items or new releases. I decided to do something a bit different with this post and share 6 disappointing mascaras I recently tried.
Dr. Hauschka Volume Mascara
Dr Hauschka is a natural beauty brand and uses clean ingredients. But the formula just doesn’t hold onto my lashes and I get almost no results from it. The brush is a natural bristle in a cone shape with a slight helix twist.
Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigment Ultra-Natural Mascara
The issue with this mascara comes from both the formula and the brush. When I pulled the brush out, I knew it would be difficult to work with as there’s lots of spaces in between the bristles. It is spiral shaped natural bristle but just too much space in between. Then the formula also doesn’t really add volume or length. The name does say Ultra Natural but I thought it might be referring to the ingredients and not the final look.
Maybelline x Gigi Hadid Fiber Mascara
I loved the Maybelline x Gigi collection and did a review on it last year! This mascara actually provides really long lashes and looks beautiful all day. The issue is with the removal. It comes off in flecks and is so hard to remove off the skin. No matter whether I use a face cleanser, oil, or micellar water, it is always so difficult to cleanly remove this mascara. Also, I’ve heard very bad things about the fiber side of the mascara falling into eyes so I didn’t use that side at all.
Pixi Large Lash Mascara
The wand on the Pixi Large Lash mascara looks like it would be promising. The natural bristles in a cone shape looks like it would be able to reach all my lashes well. However, I feel like I can’t get any control when I use this. And when I press it against my lashes, I can’t seem to get any resistance. The formula doesn’t seem to attach to the lashes and therefore I get no length or volume when I use this.
Rodial Glamolash Mascara XXL
This was my first product from Rodial and unfortunately it was a disappointment. Maybe I had a bad sample but the formula felt so dry already by the time I used it. Also the brush seemed to clump together with the formula even without using it on my lashes. As you can see in the photo below, I don’t really get any benefits of the mascara.
Urban Decay Troublemaker Mascara
Lastly, I am including the Urban Decay Troublemaker mascara. In comparison to everything else on the list, this actually does a decent job and I’ve done a full review on it. However, life is all about expectations. With the huge campaign they had and some bold claims, I was expecting a lot out of this mascara! And because of those high expectations, I thought the results were disappointing. The wand has short rubber bristles equally spanned out on 6 sides. It gave nice separation and I felt like I had way more lashes. But I didn’t get a lot of length and also I experienced flaking.
So there you have it! Some makeup items that might have never made it on to this blog if it weren’t for this post! There are so many product I try that don’t end up with a full review on my blog. But I hope you like these mini reviews and I’ll try to do more of these with just okay products that I don’t do a full review for.
