Kat Von D Fetish Blush + Highlighter Palette Review

November 22, 2018

For the holiday season, Kat Von D released two limited edition palettes under the Fetish collection. There is an eyeshadow palette with 24 jewel tones. But I have for review the Kat Von D Fetish Blush + Highlighter palette with 3 highlighters and 3 blushes.

Basics

Name: Kat Von D Fetish Blush + Highlighter Palette
Shades: 1 Shade, there is also a Fetish Eyeshadow Palette
Price: $52
Size: 15g of product, 2.5g each

Packaging

The Kat Von D Fetish palette comes in an oval shape with a pink and red color combination. The outside packaging is suppose to be a latex-like material but it feels like a combination of plastic and cardboard. I love the detail on the word “Fetish” and the 3D detailing from the embroidery. But the texture of the case feels a bit cheap and makes a squishy plastic sound if pressed. Inside, the palette includes a good sized mirror!

In terms of products, there are 3 sets of coordinated blush and highlighter. All of the blushes are matte while the highlighters are glittery. The highlighters are in much bigger pans but the amount of product is the same at 2.5g each. Overall, I think it is trying to give off vintage vibes. But the color combination ends up looking a bit dirty.

Formula – Highlighters

I’m going to split up this review between the highlighters and blushes as they perform quite differently. In general, the highlighters are better suited to more creative looks as it is quite glittery. When swatching, the shades actually feel very creamy. But the pay off in color is definitely sheer and a bit patchy with glitter being the main component.

The formula should be the same as the Metal Crush Highlighters although Magick (orange) and Telepathy (purple) are new shades for this palette.

I usually prefer warmer highlighter shades (gold, rose gold, peach etc.) so the pink and purple highlighter does not look as nice on me. In the swatch photo, I used two layers of product to create more of an opaque color to show you the difference. With one layer, there’s more glitter with no color base.

To apply, I would recommend using a foundation brush or something with dense brushes. Otherwise, you’ll find a lot of kick back. I concentrate using it just in the browbone area and dab it on first to keep the glitter where I want it. It does give a very beautiful reflection but I think it’s too glittery for my liking on an everyday basis. It reminds me of the Fenty Beauty Diamond Bomb where it would be amazing if you are doing a photoshoot but not for every day life.

Here I’m wearing Coven blush with Telepathy highlighter.

Formula – Blushes

Kat Von D came out with blush products a few years ago but they quickly got pulled from Sephora. The 3 blushes in this palette are an exclusive preview of the new Everlasting blushes to be launched. I like that the 3 shades are so different as I find blush palettes often to have duplicates.

The formula of these are again very smooth and creamy! It feels buttery to the touch! However, when you swatch it the color ends up looking patchy. Luckily, that is not the case when applied to the cheeks. My favorite has been Salem which gives a beautiful coral perk up to the face!

Bathory, the hot pink, is extremely pigmented so you’ll have to be careful and use a light hand. Also, I find red/pinks not that flattering on me so I probably won’t be using that shade too much. Coven is a very cool toned lavender pink. I actually never wear blushes this color so I’m glad this palette pushed me to test out something new. I like how it looks but since the shade is much lighter the pigmentation doesn’t seem as strong.

Here I am wearing Salem blush and Magick highlighter. I love the combo of these two and it’s what I’ve been leaning towards the most. I really wanted to love this palette but realistically I only use Salem on an every day basis. If you like this Fetish packaging, Kat Von D also released an eyeshadow palette which looks promising. Due to the glittery formulation and the more adventurous blush shades, I think this palette is suited towards those in the creative field. For me, I’ll be using Salem until I can find another orange blush that is as pretty as this one.

Here's what I found from Ragtag in Japan!! 🤩🤩
I've definitely had my eye on a Dior piece and it's extra special that this design is a Japan exclusive.
I have to say, second hand designer shopping is a lot harder than I remembered! There are SO many stores now, I probably visited 20+ and the prices are not so cheap anymore 🤧🤧
.
A similar card holder from Dior is probably $600 CAD + tax. I got this one for ~$350 CAD. It's in excellent condition but there was no dust bag nor box.

I've been using this a lot on my vacation and it stays on amazingly well all day even with the humidity.
I went for a more unique shade but all the basic browns and neutrals are available too!
