Yes, spring is here! The sunshine has been so longed for after the crazy snowy winter we had here in Vancouver. Today I’ll be sharing the Quo Spring 2019 collection including the eyeshadow palette, face palette, and lip stain. I used to review Quo’s seasonal collections all the time but the last post I did was 2 years ago!
If you are not familiar with Quo, it is a house brand by Shoppers Drug Mart. They surprisingly don’t have any social media presence. You can find their products at Shoppers usually on a pop up stand. There is a core collection of products but they are better known for their limited edition seasonal collections.
Quo Spring 2019 Eye Shadow Palette
For the spring 2019 collection, there are two 4 pan eyeshadow palettes at $18 each. The first one above is more of a cool tone and is called Desert Rose. The other one is more warm tone and is called Desert Sun. Fist things first, I fricken love these cactus imprints! It’s so cute and very unique! Out of all the “desert” “sunset” inspired products, I’ve never seen such cute cactus!
The packaging comes with a dual ended brush which actually worked pretty well with the shadows. There’s no mirrors on the lid as it’s just a clear acrylic top. For each of the palettes, I love the two colors to the right but the two colors to the left are too light. If you are medium or darker skin, you won’t be able to use all four colors.
Quo Eyeshadow – Desert Rose
When swatching this palette, the first shade doesn’t really show up on my skin. The pink shade required 3 layers to achieve that color. But I do love the shimmery taupe and shimmery olive.
Quo Eyeshadow – Desert Sun
Similarly, the first shade doesn’t really show up on my skin. The yellow is pretty and unique but it would be hard to build up on the eyes. I definitely do love the last two shades and it gives off the very popular rosy, orange look.
So I did my eyes differently to show you how I used the two palettes. On the left, I used the 3rd shade from Desert Sun all across the lid. Then I blended the 4th shade starting from the crease just to deepen it up and add some dimension. On the right I used the 4th shade in Desert Rose all along my lash line building it up only to my double eyelid line. Then I used the 3rd shade to blend that upwards.
I’m actually a pretty big fan of both looks and I applied it using only the brush included in the palette. One thing to note though are that there is a lot of powder that gets picked up and makes the pan dirty pretty fast.
Quo Face Palette in Badlands
There are also 2 face palettes in the collection but I just have one of them for review. Inside each palette is one contouring shade and 3 highlighters. I’m actually really happy the highlighters in my palette are so pigmented. I like a peachy or gold tone in my highlighters and this is perfect! I do find the contour shade (last on the right) to have a tiny bit of sheen in it and I prefer for it to be a bit more matte.
Since the highlighters are so pigmented, I just skip blush and blend the highlighter down to meet the bronzer. It actually gives a really nice glowing skin effect. I quite like this palette but I kind of wish it was a classic 1 bronzer, 1 blush, 2 highlighters to give it more versatility. I didn’t find the powders to kick up as much as the eyeshadow palette.
Quo Cream Lip Stain in Mariposa
I have never gotten along with liquid lipsticks or lip stains. They usually accentuate my lip lines and in general usually unflattering. The Quo Cream Lip Stain was a flop for me. Mariposa is a beautiful peachy pink color but I knew off the bat it was going to be too light. The formula is extremely thin but ends up streaking on the lips so I have to go over some areas multiple times. You can see the end result settles into my lip lines.
This lip stain will stay on forever though! I tried to remove it with micellar water and only some of it came off. The rest, I had to use a sugar scrub . This retails for $10 but did not work for me.
Quo Spring 2019 Collection Review
So here are all the products worn together on my face! If you have a lighter skin tone, the eyeshadow palettes might be a good buy for you! But otherwise it seems a bit wasteful to only be able to use 2 out of the 4 shades. I love the face palette, look at the pretty glow it gave me. In general, I think if you love makeup, you should pick up at least one item just for the cactus imprints! It’s so cute and will be staying on my vanity for spring time!
