YSL Volupte Plumping Lip Balm Review: 3 Shades

March 14, 2019

BASICS

Name: YSL Volupte Plump-in-color Plumping Lip Balm
Shades: Available in 8 different shades
Size: 6mL
Price: $45
Find it at Sephora and YSL Canada

What’s Different About This Lipstick?

At first glance, this lip product might look exactly like the original YSL lipsticks we know and love. But the biggest difference is that these tubes have a heart in the middle! It is so beautiful to look at and a wonderful detail to have in a luxury lipstick. The outer packaging is in a silver tube with gold accent.

These are marketed as lip balm so they do not have full coverage color. But the coral shade actually leaves quite a beautiful pop of color on my lips. The consistency reminds me a lot of the YSL Volupte Sheer Candy Glossy Balm which they no longer sell.

YSL Volupte Plumping Lip Balm in 02 Dazzling Fuchsia

This beautiful bright pink shade is one of two pink shades in the collection. I find baby pink shades are usually unflattering on my skin tone so I haven’t worn pink lipstick for a while! I was pleasantly surprised by how this looked on me. It is a bright color but because of the glossy sheer pigmentation, it is super wearable on a daily basis. All of these lip balms have a peppermint tingle to it which is probably the “plumping” effect.

YSL Volupte Plumping Lip Balm in 05 Delicious Orange

While shade 05 Delicious Orange looks red in the tube, it is a beautiful dark coral color on the lips! There’s hints of pink, red, and peach to produce a beautiful spring color. I find the YSL Volupte Plumping Lip Balm to be really comfortable when I first apply. It leaves a very thin layer of glossy color on your lips and feels moisturizing. However, I do notice with continued use that it actually dried out my lips. The ingredients are peppermint oil, hyaluronic acid, and coconut oil. I actually think I don’t react well to coconut oil, does anyone else feel the same?

YSL Volupte Plumping Lip Balm in 07 Furious Gold

Lastly, I have shade 07 Furious Gold. I had no idea what to think when I saw this in the tube. Out of the 8 shades available, I think this one is the most “high fashion”. Everything else is very easily wearable on a daily basis but Furious Gold is a very light nude with lots of shimmer. It’s not super flattering on my all over the lip but it looks beautiful in the center of the lips.

RATINGS

Color   8/10
Shine  10/10
Moisture  7/10
Packaging 10/10
Value 9/10
Overall 24/30 B+

These lip balms have that tantalizing fruity smell that YSL lipsticks are known for. I think this is great for every day use and looks beautiful in your purse or vanity. However, even though the name contains “lip balm”, it does not mean it’s necessarily moisturizing. The product contains moisturizing ingredients but for some reason, my lips feel quite tight after continual use. I absolutely love the heart core and glossy color, but it’s not moisturizing enough to use on a daily basis.

I would recommend the YSL Tatouage Couture Matte Stain if you’re looking for more color or the YSL Volupte Liquid Color Balm for daily use!

Hellllooo fall! 🍂🍁 In just a few weeks, the Hellllooo fall! 🍂🍁

In just a few weeks, the leaves are going to be golden red at Trout Lake!! 🤩😍. What are your favorite fall foliage spots in Vancouver?
Editing this post made MY MOUTH WATER!! 🤤🤤 Editing this post made MY MOUTH WATER!! 🤤🤤

Here are the best things I ate in Japan - restaraunt edition! (do you want to see one for snacks? or do you want to see a worst things I ate in Japan?)
Prices of the specific dish listed below.

1. Kanoko, try their special green tea infused soba or normal soba. I loved the dashi and tempura. Perfect lunch option for after visiting the tori gates. 1,300 Yen 🍜

2. Okonomiyaki Sakaba, you can pick the inside filling and a lot of the options were meat based. The sauce on top is delicious and you may be surprised the inside is mostly cabbage and not flour. 1,000 Yen🍥

3. Udon Bo Osaka, I tried out a cold dipping udon and it was excellent! They have a special yuzu sauce and the tempura is amazing too. 1,250 Yen 🍤

4. Roast Beef Ohno, the most affordable way to eat wagyu! Loved the sauces and nice side veggie dishes too. 1,750 Yen 🥓

5. Fuunji, flavorful dipping ramen with a vending machine to order! 1,400 (with egg + bamboo add on)🍱

6. Maguro Koya, holy crap I'm addicted to Ootoro now. So glad we splurged and got the double portion. We also tried the chutoro sashimi to compare cuts. 3,200 Yen 🍣

Hope this provides some delicious inspo for the best food in Japan!
Here's what I found from Ragtag in Japan!! 🤩🤩
I've definitely had my eye on a Dior piece and it's extra special that this design is a Japan exclusive.
I have to say, second hand designer shopping is a lot harder than I remembered! There are SO many stores now, I probably visited 20+ and the prices are not so cheap anymore 🤧🤧
.
A similar card holder from Dior is probably $600 CAD + tax. I got this one for ~$350 CAD. It's in excellent condition but there was no dust bag nor box.
