One of the original ingredients used in The Body Shop is shea butter. This well known ingredient is great for hydration from head to toe and is the first ever community trade ingredient from the brand since 1994. There are quite a few new products added to the Body Shop Shea Butter collection and I want to introduce these items to you today!
The Body Shop Shea Butter- Community Trade Ingredient
The Body Shop has been sourcing Shea Butter from the Tungteiya Women’s Association since 1994. These ladies live in Northern Ghana from 11 different villages. The Body Shop pays a fair price and also has helped the villages build schools in these communities. It’s so important these days for successful companies to give back and provide transparency in sourcing. I like that The Body Shop shares the background of their ingredients for consumers.
Shea Butter Hand Cream & Body Lotion
The Body Shop Shea Butter Hand Cream (buy here): I’ve used up so many hand creams from The Body Shop and you’ll love them if you like a thin formula for hand creams. The texture is quite watery but absorbs so fast and still hydrates my hands. You can find this product in the normal 30mL travel size or this jumbo 100mL size which would be perfect to keep at the office!
The Body Shop Shea Nourishing Whipped Lotion (buy here): For the body, you can stay nourished with a convenient pump bottle body lotion. Again, the texture is quite thin. I usually apply lotion after I shower and I find a thin texture a bit hard to blend with any water on the skin. So I like using this just randomly during the day.
Shea Butter Body Scrub & Hair Mask
The Body Shop Shea Butter Exfoliating Sugar Body Scrub (buy here): This is my favorite product out of the whole collection! The sugar scrub has the perfect amount of grit to feel exfoliating without it being uncomfortable on the skin. It rinses off really easily in the shower but leaves a nice hydrated feel on my skin. Very often, my body will feel tight as soon as I step out of the shower. But when I use this, my skin feels comfortable.
The Body Shop Shea Butter Rich Replenishing Hair Mask (buy here): I try to wash my hair as infrequently as possible. So hair masks are usually not the first products I reach for. This is like a conditioner on steroids and will make your hair feel silky soft! For hair care, I shared my favorite hair care products in a previous post.
Shea Butter Shampoo & Conditioner
The Body Shop Shea Butter Richly Replenishing Shampoo (buy here): The shampoo and conditioner set is best suited for those with dry hair. The shampoo produced a lot of lather. It did a good job cleaning without stripping.
The Body Shop Shea Butter Richly Replenishing Conditioner (buy here): Based on the name and ingredients, I was expecting this to be a very heavy conditioner. It’s actually not and I would have liked it to be a bit more smoothing. With the product on, my hair feels very silky. But once I rinse, my hair actually feels a bit stripped.
100% Shea Butter
The Body Shop Shea Butter (buy here): If you love to DIY or just love to use products at its purest form, you need to check this out! You can take a small amount to moisturize hair, skin, face, and lips! Or there are several DIY recipes for you to create lip scrubs or bath melts!
Other Goodies
Here are a few other items you can find in this collection! The Body Shop is very famous for their lip butters which comes in a round tube and in many flavors. They also created a bar soap in the Shea Butter collection. Lastly, if you enjoy facial oils, the beautifying dry oil can be used on the face, hair and body!
Overall, I’m very impressed by the low price point (especially as the site is often on sale for 40% off) and high quality of the products. The Body Shop is known for sustainably sourcing their products and they have shared a lot of information on the sourcing of Shea Butter. It’s easy to support a brand that makes quality products while supporting the workers from around the world!
