Clarins Summer 2019 Collection: Bronzer, Water Lip Stain, Eye Liner

June 20, 2019

These days I am usually pretty backlogged in testing and reviewing my press samples. But when I received the package for the Clarins Summer 2019 Collection, I knew I had to try it right away! I like that the collection was concise and had purpose. Also, this bronzer is so eye catching, I immediately wanted to photograph and put it on my face. So read on for my review and demo of these three products.

Clarins Bronzing Compact

The first thing that caught my eye is the Bronzing Compact ($42 CAD). Adorned with a floral motif, this extra large compact provides a harmonious blend of 3 shades to achieve the perfect glow. On the outside, the bronzing compact is a rich red color with flower design and pops of white and yellow. I have 02 Sunrise Glow which contains a satin finish bronzer, golden highlighter, and a deep mauve blush.

When you open up the bronzer, there is a light fragrant scent. The main bronzer color is actually lighter than the blush so it’s not a crazy contour shade. You will be able to create some definition but I actually love this blush the most! I’ve also dealt with red cheeks so I usually avoid pink blushes. This mauvey shade is right up my alley and creates a gorgeous cheekbone while adding color. I’m a bit disappointed with the highlighter as it’s not very reflective as it’s more of a satin finish.

An interesting ingredient of this bronzer is the Clarins Anti-Pollution Complex. There’s been a lot of products recently with this anti-pollution claim and I’m glad that makeup products are doing double duty with skincare benefits.

From left to right: the bronzer, blush and highlight. As you can see, the blush is the most pigmented while the highlight is almost invisible.

Water Lip Stains

The Water Lip Stain ($25 CAD) is an iconic Clarins product but this is my first time trying it! For the summer 2019 collection, Clarins released 3 limited edition shades. I’ve tried water based lip products before and generally enjoy them due to the lightweight feel. However, I’ve never tried a shimmery water based lip product!

On my first swipe, I was obsessed with the color! I have 06 Sparking Red Water and it’s actually a beautiful coral red. The product contains gold shimmer that provides a beautiful 3D effect to the lips. It has a fruity sweet scent that reminds me of a summer cocktail. The formula applies just like water and feels weightless and liquidy. I find it a bit difficult to apply evenly on the upper lip but I’m obsessed with the gold shimmer in the formula that makes this water stain look shimmery!

These surprisingly don’t last that long on the lips though. Usually by 3 hours, I need to reapply. Also, I don’t find it hydrating at all. Although it doesn’t dry out the lips, I need to use lip balm in between uses in order to keep my lips smooth. But I think it’s a really unique formula and color.

Waterproof Eye Pencil

I had a phase where I loved using bright color on my lower lash line. I haven’t done that for a while though and this bright blue was a bit daunting. The reason Clarins chose a bright blue is because the color stands out beautifully on tanned skin. The Waterproof Eye Pencil is $28 CAD.

I like that the formula is smooth but not super buttery. I’ve tried very buttery eye pencils before and unfortunately they just smudge way too easily. Although the color is really nice, it’s not something I would wear all the time. If you are looking for a true blue though, this stays on the waterline wonderfully.

Clarins 2019 Summer Collection

Overall, I’m so impressed with the Clarins Summer 2019 collection! Often, limited edition makeup focuses on the packaging and not the quality. These 3 products all hit the mark in terms of design and function. My favorite is the Water Lip Stain with the Bronzing Compact a close second.

We did the origin tasting which featured a gamay, a chardonnay and two pinot noirs ($40 per person). While the tasting is on the higher range of things, this is the quintessential experience of the wonderful wines of Willamette Valley!
.
The tasting room is modern and beautiful with an expansive patio area (kids and dogs welcome!). And even more impressive is the view past it. We had the charcuterie board along with the 4 wines and it was truly a luxurious experience! 🌠

We had such great weather the past week in Vancouv We had such great weather the past week in Vancouver and I'm reminded of what sun feels like again 🌞🤣 I'm ecstatic to incorporate Sun Bum in my routine with their huge range of products. They have body sunscreens in lotion and spray formats as well as mineral based sunscreens. I'm also sharing a few more unique products from them:

Sun Bum Cool Down Lotion 🌿 ($7.99) - We've all done it. We forgot to apply and now our skin is red and tender. This lotion is formulated with aloe to help soothe and restore the skin. It contains their iconic coconut scent which makes you feel like you're on vacation.

Sun Balm SPF 40 Face Mist 🙆🏻‍♀️ ($15.99) - Omg yes finally a face mist! I find spray formats a lot more convenient to use especially when reapplying. But the bottles always have a warning not to use it on the face. This comes with an even nozzle spray and will definitely be a staple for me.

Sum Bun SPF 30 Lip Balm 🏝 ($3.99) - Don't forget about your lips! I don't use SPF on my lips often and was excited about the Mango and Coconut flavors. However, the sunscreen smell is quite prominent and I don't love that smell. I'll probably only use this sparingly on high exposure days.

Hope this was helpful to get you started on some sun protection! Tell me your favorite products and brands. 🏖🏜
