Santorini is a breataking destination that is a favorite for couples especially those looking to splurge on their honeymoon. Today I’ll be sharing 9 fun things to do in Santorini!
1. Wine Tasting with Views
There are many wineries to choose from in Santorini but the two with caldera views areΒ Venetsanos or Santos. If you want front row seats to watch the sunset, I’d recommend you to make a reservation online! However, the cheapest option is 30. The views are really gorgeous and the wine is on par with most of the other wineries on the island.
2. Go to a Beach Bar
Although Santorini is not known for their beaches, there are quite a few stylish beach bars to visit!Β The best beach bars on Perissa beach are Mezedaki, Fratzeskos, and Wet Stories. The best beach bars on Perivolos is Terra Nera, Margarita, and En Lefko. I had the chance to check out Kamari Beach. It’s not as nice of a beach as Perissa but I loved the sight of beach umbrellas and the cute boardwalk with restaurants.
3. Learn About the Myth of Atlantis
I’m so excited to share this because it’s a brand new activity that opened in 2019! Also located towards the south of Santorini in Megalochori, the Lost Atlantis Experience is an interactive experience to relive the myth of Atlantis. I can’t say I’m much of a historic traveler, but I actually do enjoy learning about the history if it’s in a format that’s easy to digest.
This museum is open 9am-9pm every day and costs 12 euros per adult. I’ll have a full post covering my experience on this soon! But the museum includes a 9D movie and some very interesting displays. The general idea is to try and prove how Santorini might actually be the source of the Atlantis myth!
4. Find the Heart of Santorini
So this activity won’t take you that long but I feel like it’s such an appropriate spot to have a photo op. The Heart of Santorini is a natural rock formation that forms the shape of a heart with a view of the ocean. If either of you like to have cute photos, this is a must do! Even better is that right next to this is Agios Nikolaos which is a church with 3 bells!
5. Horseback Riding
I’ve always loved horseback riding and I love that you can go with your horse to the beach in Santorini! Usually in Canada, you only get to ride the horse in trails in forests. There are two providers for horseback riding in the south part of Santorini: Santo Horse Riding and Santorini Horse Riding.
I did a horseback riding tour with Santo Horse Riding and I’ll share a full recap on the blog soon! The tour was about 2 hours and I rode through small roads to arrive at Valichada Beach a bit before sunset! You can’t take photos while riding the horse unfortunately but the tour guide will get you some gorgeous photos at the beach!
6. Take a Cooking Class
There are two main places on Santorini to take Cooking Classes: Selene and Petra Kouzina. But you can also find several day tour operators offering cooking classes as part of a package. I’m not sure if they would outsource the cooking portion or if they hire their own instructors.
I didn’t have time to do this but if you enjoy cooking, this would be a fun activity
7. Open Air Cinema + Drinks
Another new experience on Santorini is Volkon on the Rocks in Fira. There is a very popular open air cinema in Kamari Beach but it’s difficult for most tourists to get to. Now in the heart of Fira with caldera views, Volkon on the Rocks serves drinks and also has a huge screen for movies. It is a bit expensive but I thought it was a really unique experience. Their food is actually reasonably priced!
8. Hire a Photographer
Hiring a photographer has many benefits but mainly for finding hidden spots. I really wanted to take a photo on the blue dome church but was unable to find one myself because most of them were fenced off. Our photographer was able to lead us through a path that got us on the building!
Check out Flytographer which specializes in travel photos!
9. Take a Boat Tour
One of the most highly recommended activities for Santorini is taking a boat tour around the island. There are tons to choose from but they are usually 5+ hours which seems too long to sacrifice especially as most people only stay on Santorini for a few days. So I found Caldera’s Boats which offers a tour for only 3 hours long and only 20 Euros.
I wanted to leave out some of the obvious things to do in Santorini and focus on unique experiences! I hope this list gave you ideas that are new and special!
