Discovering Jill Stuart Makeup

July 11, 2019

I don’t know where I first discovered Jill Stuart makeup but I always knew it was beautiful line for elegant ladies. There’s no retailers in Canada but Jill Stuart makeup is available in the US! I believe the brand is also very popular in Japan and Asia. This is my first time trying products from the brand and I was so excited to open up these packages. The aesthetic is very different from North American brands and I love the sophisticated elegance.

Jill Stuart Mix Blush Compact

If you like carrying makeup in your purse, this has got to be the prettiest item in your handbag (don’t miss my review of the Gucci Marmont camera bag). The Jill Stuart Mix Blush Compact is a 4 color blush compact with an attached chain to a blush brush! I feel so polished and put together just holding this compact. You can unclasp the brush from the compact so I’ll definitely be popping this in my purse for any future cheek touch ups on the go!

There are four shades in the blush so you can pick and choose or swirl it all together. I knew that the top two shade would be too light for my skin tone so I tested out using just the bottom two shades and also all 4 shades together. I liked using just the bottom two shades better because it had more pigmentation and more of an orange tone.

Jill Stuart makeup is popular in Asian countries especially Japan, and usually the trend is to have a more subtle blush color. This is probably why the pigmentation is quite light. I can see a faint addition of color on my heeks but it’s unclear whether I’m wearing blush or not.

I am a bit more tan right now after two weeks in Greece so these colors are definitely better suited for fair-light skin tones. So while the compact is absolutely stunning, I can’t see myself reaching for this too often as it takes a bit of work to build up the color. As you can see in the swatch below, the 2 colors in the top row would be too stark against my skin tone. The photo of my cheek is using the bottom 2 colors.

Jill Stuart Iconic Look Eyeshadow

The Jill Stuart Iconic Look Eyeshadows are single pan eyeshadows in a clear acrylic case. There are 21 shades and 4 textures to choose from: Satin, Matte, Cream & Glitter. Each texture does not have the same colors though so if you like a certain color, you can’t necessarily find it in another texture. The two samples I received were both glitters.

G302 my darling

G303 bring happiness

I have to say that I was a bit disappointed when I swatched these two shades. Both of them came out looking the same with fine glitter but no base pigmentation. The shadows actually fared better when applied to the lid with an eyeshadow brush. I can definitely see the sparkles on my lids but there is still no base pigmentation. I tried layering it on top of other eyeshadows and it did actually work decently. So I would suggest using it as a topper.

If you are in the market for a glitter eyeshadow, this actually worked out better than expected with no messy powder or fall out! But the two shades are basically identical and if you want any color with the glitter, you’ll have to use another eyeshadow. In the demo above, you can see a pretty shimmery look when used on its own. It also adds glitter on top of any other color. Each pan contains 1.5g of product and retails for $20 USD.

Jill Stuart Lip Blossom

I have never seen a lipstick case as feminine and intricate as the Jill Stuart Lip Blossom. The lipstick case has a floral motif on the lid which actually opens up to a small mirror. Then in the front, you have this circular Swarovski crystal piece which adds to the elegance.

With glossy lips being trendy again, the sheer juicy color from this lipstick would be really nice for every day use. There’s no glitter or shimmer in the formula but it leaves a beautiful shine from the gloss. The lipstick provides hydrating benefits as well with a blend of moisturizing oils such as lavender, rosemary, avocado and almond.

The lipstick has a cursive “J” on the top but unfortunately it rubs away after just one use. I have shade 32 Mandevilla Dress which is a light coral pink. It looks beautiful swatched but is a tad pale against my skin tone. Luckily there are 24 shades to choose from so you can find one that’s your favorite.

I’m not usually very sensitive to scents but I do notice the smell on this lipstick. It’s infused with Jill Stuart’s signature floral scent but it feels a bit strong to me. I don’t mind the scent but I feel like I can taste it. So this is something to note if you don’t like fragrance in lip products.

I’m a bit sad that none of the products really worked well for me to use on a daily basis. But I still do think the packaging is on another level and really great for those prefer a more feminine look. The Lip Blossom would be my top pick out of these items. You can find these products at Jill Stuart online!

It's been out for a few years but I am still loving it. The formula is pigmented, smooth and stays on all day! Also, some of the shades look similar in the pan but different on the eyes. So I can get so many looks out of its! Not to mention, it smells amazing 😍
