Oak and Fort Beauty Launch Review

August 29, 2019

It’s always so exciting when a large retailer enters the beauty space! One of them this year is the Oak and Fort Beauty Launch earlier this spring. I’ve always liked the fashionable minimalist style of Oak and Fort fashion so I was really excited to test out theI the Glow Collection set ($45) which includes 3 products from the brand. Read on for my review and demo!

About Oak and Fort

If you are not familiar with Oak and Fort, they are a fashion and lifestyle company based in Vancouver. Their focus is on affordable luxury while embracing minimalist designs. I used to think their pricing is really high but actually most of their products are priced quite well. Their summer sale right now is also amazing for some last minute deals! The only thing about shopping on their online site is that you can’t return to store locations.

The beauty collection was created with the same principles of thoughtful minimalism resulting in a concise range of products to enhance natural beauty.

Oak + Fort CC Cushion

Starting off with face products, Oak + Fort only sells one type of foundation: The Oak + Fort CC Cushion. CC cushions were all the rage a few years ago thanks to the K beauty trend. I’ve tried quite a few myself including the Laneige BB Cushion and the Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion.

I like cushion foundations as they usually provide a light coverage and is really easy to pack in your bag to use again later in the day! There is a nice mirror on the inside of the compact as well as the puff. I prefer to use a foundation brush to apply as I find the puffs get dirty way too quickly.

There are only 3 shades available but I like that the shade range is much bigger. Generally I find cushion foundations to only cover very light skin but Ecru is great for light-medium skin. It is stated to have a yellow undertone but I find it has a pink undertone instead. The formula is light and comfortable and fills in my pores nicely (you can see what my bare skin looks like)! It makes my skin tone much more even although I’ll need to build up the coverage on my cheeks if I want to block out the redness. I am very happy with this and this is very comparable to high end beauty products.

Oak + Fort Color Wash

This came at such a great time as I was just getting in the mood to experiment with liquid and cream cheek products again! I always like to use powder blushes because it’s super fast to apply and my fingers stay clean. But I’ve been liking the natural skin like glow of liquid highlighters and they work much better if you use a liquid/cream blush underneath.

When I saw the shade Reef, I was definitely tentative. While it looked like a medium toned coral online, in person it is a bright bold deep orange. Luckily it blends out really easily and does not make me look like I dunked my cheeks in paint. The Oak + Fort Color Wash products are made for the lips and cheeks so you can make this a dual purpose lip product.

I apply this product with my fingers but you can also use a stippling brush or a wet beauty blender. I like to rub my finger in the product a few times to warm it up and then dot the blush along my cheek bones starting at my hair line. Then I simply blend it upwards on to my cheeks. It dries down pretty fast so you should blend immediately. I haven’t noticed any issues with blotchiness. It is very user friendly as I rarely use cream blushes but I was able to achieve a very pretty look.

The color is also quite beautiful on the lips. But since it dries down to a powder finish, it sets into any dry skin and lines. So I’d recommend using this as a blush instead.

Where to buy: 3g, $18 currently on sale for $14 at Oak + Fort online and in stores

Oak + Fort O Powder

The last product in the Glow collection set is the Oak + Fort O Powder. I have dry skin so I rarely use loose powder to set my makeup. I did give this a try and liked that the powder is skin toned so there’s no ashiness. The powder is also quite fine so it melted into the skin nicely.

There is only one shade available so it’s best for light to medium skin tones. It’s hard for me to get excited about loose powder but if you have oily skin, it can be the best 1 minute product in the morning.

Where to buy: 25g, $28 currently on sale for $22 at Oak + Fort online and in stores

Here's what I found from Ragtag in Japan!! 🤩🤩
I've definitely had my eye on a Dior piece and it's extra special that this design is a Japan exclusive.
I have to say, second hand designer shopping is a lot harder than I remembered! There are SO many stores now, I probably visited 20+ and the prices are not so cheap anymore 🤧🤧
.
A similar card holder from Dior is probably $600 CAD + tax. I got this one for ~$350 CAD. It's in excellent condition but there was no dust bag nor box.

No reservations are required and the fare is just the basic fare (approximately $4!) 🚅
Check online for the most updated timetable but the most current is
9:32, 11:32, 13:32, and 15:32 leaving Osaka for Kyoto!
We showed up 30 minutes before boarding and was the first ones for car 5. Car 3 seems to be the most popular for the cherry blossoms!

I've been using this a lot on my vacation and it stays on amazingly well all day even with the humidity.
I went for a more unique shade but all the basic browns and neutrals are available too!

Would you swap your current eyeshadow for this?
