Drunk Elephant Shelf Respect Gift Set Review

October 20, 2019

Drunk Elephant is one of the hottest skincare brands right now! It’s hard to resist the colorful packaging, clean ingredient list, and effective results! I really enjoy my Drunk Elephant products and today I’ll be sharing one of their 2019 holiday gift sets: Drunk Elephant Shelf Respect Gift Set!

Drunk Elephant Shelf Respect Gift Set

You can find this gift set on Sephora (currently sold out) or on Drunk Elephant online. The set retails for $88 USD and is valued at $124 USD. Essentially, you are paying the price of one full size item and receiving 5 free minis. Yay for good deals! There is also a corresponding Shelf Control set which is a night time skincare routine and contains some of my favorite products! But I wanted to try two products that are new to me in the Shelf Respect set!

Let’s take a look at what’s in the set:

  • 30 ml C-Firma™ Day Serum
  • 15 ml Umbra Sheer™ Physical Daily Defense, SPF 30
  • 15 ml Protini™ Polypeptide Cream
  • 8 ml B-Hydra™ Intensive Hydration Serum
  • 8 ml D-Bronzi™ Anti-Pollution Sunshine Drops

The packaging is so adorable! The front outdoor flap actually has a full on mirror that looks like a bathroom cabinet. When you open it up, it is packaged to look like a cabinet shelf. You can definitely reuse the packaging to store your skincare products.

Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum

The full size product in this gift set is the C-Firma Day Cream. I actually tried this product in my very first Drunk Elephant gift set, but unfortunately mine went bad really fast so I didn’t get to use it for very long. Vitamin C is a difficult ingredient to work with and can oxidize and react with oxygen rather quickly. Make sure to use your C-Firma Day Serum as soon as you buy it.

The serum has a gel texture that is thicker than most. It is easy to spread on the skin but leaves it sticky for at least a minute. I had no piling issues with applying primer and foundation even when it is sticky. This serum is best for reducing sun damage and hyperpigmentation, while providing more radiance for the skin.

Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive

I’ve had a mini of the B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum before from last year’s Drunk Elephant gift set. This serum has a lightweight watery texture and sets into the skin very nicely. It feels very soothing and is perfect to add to your routine especially for winter time. Formulated with pro-vitamin B5 and pineapple ceramide, this serum aims to diminish drabness, dryness and the appearance of fine lines.

To be honest, this is low on the list of Drunk Elephant products to recommend. Not because I dislike it in any way. But I don’t notice any immediate differences when I use it. It feels very pleasant to apply bit it doesn’t leave my skin feeling plump like some of my other favorite hydrating serums.

Drunk Elephant Protini Polypetide Cream

The Protini Polypeptide Cream is my favorite Drunk Elephant cream and I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a nice medium weight moisturizer. In comparison to the Lala Retro, this one feels a lighter to the touch. But I find this leaves my face feeling more hydrated while the Lala Retro provides my face with a matte finish. You only need a tiny amount and it spreads across the skin very nicely.

This formula contains peptides that are made up of amino acids that form protein in the skin. These help to firm and plump up the skin feels strengthened.

Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi Anti Pollution Sunshine Drops

Completely new to me is the Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Sunshine Drops. I’ve been testing out a lot of new skincare that has anti pollution as an advertised benefit. It is definitely a valid concern as I’ve been living in downtown for the past few years which adds stress to the skin. This product is a luminizer that can be added to your morning cream or foundation.

Cocoa and white tea extract provide anti oxidants and anti pollution benefits. You only need a tiny drop (I actually have trouble controlling how little to pump out) to mix in for a touch of color.

Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense

The other product that is new to me is the Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Sunscreen. I’ve been wearing sunscreen much more this year as I start to notice sun damage on my skin. I have a few favorite facial sunscreens already but most of them are chemical as opposed to this physical sunscreen. If you don’t know the difference between chemical versus physical sunscreen, make sure to read my sunscreen guide.

20% zinc oxide is a great amount of protection for every day use. It does not leave a white cast unlike some other physical sunscreens. While the formula is quite sheer, it does feel slightly heavy on the skin compared to some of my other very liquidy facial sunscreens.

My Thoughts

I am obsessed with this brand from their marketing and product stand point. Not every product in this set is a hard hitter but I love that it gives me the opportunity to try new items from the brand. If you want to try the C-Firma serum, pick the Shelf Respect kit. If you want to try the TLC Frambos Serum (I love this for smoothing any bumps on the skin), pick the Shelf Control kit. Either way, you’ll get a chance to try a bunch of other minis and discover the brand!

Also, who’s excited for holiday kit reviews! Let me know what you’d be interested in seeing!

Hellllooo fall! 🍂🍁 In just a few weeks, the Hellllooo fall! 🍂🍁

In just a few weeks, the leaves are going to be golden red at Trout Lake!! 🤩😍. What are your favorite fall foliage spots in Vancouver?
Editing this post made MY MOUTH WATER!! 🤤🤤 Editing this post made MY MOUTH WATER!! 🤤🤤

Here are the best things I ate in Japan - restaraunt edition! (do you want to see one for snacks? or do you want to see a worst things I ate in Japan?)
Prices of the specific dish listed below.

1. Kanoko, try their special green tea infused soba or normal soba. I loved the dashi and tempura. Perfect lunch option for after visiting the tori gates. 1,300 Yen 🍜

2. Okonomiyaki Sakaba, you can pick the inside filling and a lot of the options were meat based. The sauce on top is delicious and you may be surprised the inside is mostly cabbage and not flour. 1,000 Yen🍥

3. Udon Bo Osaka, I tried out a cold dipping udon and it was excellent! They have a special yuzu sauce and the tempura is amazing too. 1,250 Yen 🍤

4. Roast Beef Ohno, the most affordable way to eat wagyu! Loved the sauces and nice side veggie dishes too. 1,750 Yen 🥓

5. Fuunji, flavorful dipping ramen with a vending machine to order! 1,400 (with egg + bamboo add on)🍱

6. Maguro Koya, holy crap I'm addicted to Ootoro now. So glad we splurged and got the double portion. We also tried the chutoro sashimi to compare cuts. 3,200 Yen 🍣

Hope this provides some delicious inspo for the best food in Japan!
Here's what I found from Ragtag in Japan!! 🤩🤩
I've definitely had my eye on a Dior piece and it's extra special that this design is a Japan exclusive.
I have to say, second hand designer shopping is a lot harder than I remembered! There are SO many stores now, I probably visited 20+ and the prices are not so cheap anymore 🤧🤧
.
A similar card holder from Dior is probably $600 CAD + tax. I got this one for ~$350 CAD. It's in excellent condition but there was no dust bag nor box.

📍 Ragtag, Shinseibashi, Osaka
We made it on the kyo-train garaku by Hankyu and I We made it on the kyo-train garaku by Hankyu and I'd highly recommend boarding this train if you're transiting between Osaka and Kyoto. ❤️‍🔥🌸
No reservations are required and the fare is just the basic fare (approximately $4!) 🚅
Check online for the most updated timetable but the most current is
9:32, 11:32, 13:32, and 15:32 leaving Osaka for Kyoto!
We showed up 30 minutes before boarding and was the first ones for car 5. Car 3 seems to be the most popular for the cherry blossoms!
