Sulwhasoo Essential Lip Serum Stick Review

October 10, 2019

As one of the most luxurious Asian beauty brands, Canadian shoppers can now explore Sulwhasoo at Sephora! Right now, only Sulwhasoo skincare products are available. But I hope makeup products will be available soon. Today, I’ll be sharing my review of the Sulwhasoo Essential Lip Serum Stick.

BASICS

Name: Sulwhasoo Essential Lip Serum Stick
Shades: Available in 8 shades
Size: 3g
Price: $38 USD

About Sulwhasoo

Sulwhasoo is a luxury beauty brand from Korea. Their main focus is on skincare and their formulation draws from traditional Korean herbal medicine. A common ingredient used in their skincare is ginseng. They are very famous for their anti-aging products like the First Care Serum (available at Sephora!).  I reviewed their Perfecting Cushion earlier this year and I can’t wait to try some of their skincare too.

Packaging

The Sulwhasoo Essential Lip Serum Stick comes in gold lipstick tubes. The bottom half is brushed metal and matte while the top is very shiny. I also love this detail on the end cap which features faux marble that corresponds to the color of the lipstick inside. The twist up mechanic is very smooth similar to Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks! The packaging definitely lives up to its hefty price tag.

Formula

I keep calling this a lipstick but the formula is a hybrid of lip balm, lip gloss, AND lipstick! This acts like a lip balm because it provides moisture and the Camellia oil and safflower complex helps to relieve dry lips. It’s also like a lip gloss because the finish is extremely shiny. It’s hard to believe that it’s in a stick format and not a liquid gloss!

The formula glides on your lips and the color just melts in. I’m having some dry skin on my lips right now due to the changing weather. This slides right past it and camouflages it really nicely. It feels extremely hydrating on the lips and feels plushy as well. There is a light lemony scent to the product. Overall, the application and mouthfeel is fantastic!

Swatches & Demo

Here I have 03 Flower Pink on the left and 06 Sweet Pink on the right. I prefer wearing 03 Flower Pink on a daily basis as it’s deeper and more flattering for my skin tone. If you are more pale, 06 Sweet Pink would be a delicate and feminine shade. In the photos below, I am wearing 03 Flower Pink.

Ratings

Packaging          10/10
Colors                 9/10
Formula             10/10
Longevity           10/10
Value                  8/10
Total                    47/50 A

I love the simple but sophisticated packaging and the overall sensorial experience is fantastic! I had to take some points off for value because it is $38 USD for a sheer lip product. But I think this will be so nice for the fall and winter time because it will hydrate your lips and also look great even if you have dry skin on your lips.

Hellllooo fall! 🍂🍁 In just a few weeks, the Hellllooo fall! 🍂🍁

In just a few weeks, the leaves are going to be golden red at Trout Lake!! 🤩😍. What are your favorite fall foliage spots in Vancouver?
Editing this post made MY MOUTH WATER!! 🤤🤤 Editing this post made MY MOUTH WATER!! 🤤🤤

Here are the best things I ate in Japan - restaraunt edition! (do you want to see one for snacks? or do you want to see a worst things I ate in Japan?)
Prices of the specific dish listed below.

1. Kanoko, try their special green tea infused soba or normal soba. I loved the dashi and tempura. Perfect lunch option for after visiting the tori gates. 1,300 Yen 🍜

2. Okonomiyaki Sakaba, you can pick the inside filling and a lot of the options were meat based. The sauce on top is delicious and you may be surprised the inside is mostly cabbage and not flour. 1,000 Yen🍥

3. Udon Bo Osaka, I tried out a cold dipping udon and it was excellent! They have a special yuzu sauce and the tempura is amazing too. 1,250 Yen 🍤

4. Roast Beef Ohno, the most affordable way to eat wagyu! Loved the sauces and nice side veggie dishes too. 1,750 Yen 🥓

5. Fuunji, flavorful dipping ramen with a vending machine to order! 1,400 (with egg + bamboo add on)🍱

6. Maguro Koya, holy crap I'm addicted to Ootoro now. So glad we splurged and got the double portion. We also tried the chutoro sashimi to compare cuts. 3,200 Yen 🍣

Hope this provides some delicious inspo for the best food in Japan!
Here's what I found from Ragtag in Japan!! 🤩🤩
I've definitely had my eye on a Dior piece and it's extra special that this design is a Japan exclusive.
I have to say, second hand designer shopping is a lot harder than I remembered! There are SO many stores now, I probably visited 20+ and the prices are not so cheap anymore 🤧🤧
.
A similar card holder from Dior is probably $600 CAD + tax. I got this one for ~$350 CAD. It's in excellent condition but there was no dust bag nor box.
