I had a phase where I loved tinted moisturizers in my early 20s. It’s been a while since a brand released a tinted moisturizer as I feel the craze in recent years have been CC creams. Today, I am sharing with you a relatively new product from Smashbox called the Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturizer!

Basics
Name: Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturizer
Shade: 15 shades, I have Light Neutral
Price: $48 CAD
Size: 40mL
This product aims to be all in one with SPF25 to achieve a lightweight, natural-looking dewy coverage. It contains skin care ingredients to hydrate the skin for 24 hours.
Packaging

The Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturizer comes in a beige squeezy tube and is giving me major throwback vibes. It’s a pretty simple design for the product and the box. Although Smashbox is not usually known for lavish designs, this is pretty lackluster. I recently reviewed their Cali Contour palette and that one has a much more attractive packaging!
Smashbox Halo Formula

When you think of tinted moisturizer, you might think a very light coverage with a skincare feel. That’s what I was imagining but the Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturizer doesn’t feel that way at all. This product aims to be all in one by combining primer, SPF, and hydration.
First off, the formula is kind of thick. It squeezes out pretty easily like a liquid foundation out of the tube. But when I’m trying to blend it with a brush, it doesn’t spread very easily. Secondly, I don’t find it that moisturizing. The ingredient list contains rose extract, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, goji berries, gold & peptides. However, I actually find it looks kind of dry on my skin and also clings to any flaky skin.
I like that it claims to provide a lightweight, natural-looking dewy coverage with 24 hour hydration, but I’m not sure it hit that mark for me. I found the finish to be pretty matte actually and not the dewy look I was imagining.
Shade

I am wearing shade Light Neutral and I think it’s a very nice match! There are 15 shades to choose from with a large selection in the medium to dark range. You can find the shades swatched on different skintones on Smashbox’s online website.
Demo of Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturizer

Here is a demo of a before and after of wearing the Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturizer. As you can see, it evened out my skin tone generally. But the redness on the top of my cheeks are still there, your natural skin will definitely show through. The formula is a bit thick for my liking especially if the finish is a light-medium coverage.
Rating of Smashbox Halo Healthy Glow
Shade: 9/10
Coverage: 4/5
Finish: 3/5
Packaging: 4/5
Value: 3/5
Total: 23/30

Unfortunately this is not one of my favorite foundations I’ve tried recently. The formula is unexpectedly thick especially with tinted moisturizer in the product name. Also, although it says the finish is a dewy look, I found it to be a pretty satin finish. An amazing product from Smashbox is the Cali Contour palette which I’m still loving after two months! Too bad the Halo Tinted Moisturizer did not hit the mark for me.
