Guerlain Abeille Royale Skincare Review (Eye R Serum and Double R Serum)

May 19, 2021

The bee has been Guerlain’s house symbol since 1853 and a staple of the brand. Today, I’m chatting about two products from the Guerlain Abeille Royale skincare collection which harnesses all the power of honey and jellys to create effective products that minimize signs of aging! New this year is the Guerlain Abeille Royal Eye R Repair Serum. While testing the eye serum though, I fell in love with the Guerlain Abeille Royale Double R Renew & Repair Serum.

About the Guerlain Abeille Royale Collection

Abeille Royale is one of Guerlain’s most popular skincare collections. It’s a full skincare collection with cult favorite best sellers and also new launches like the Eye R Repair Serum. Abeille Royale focuses on bee products such as honey and royal jelly to create effective anti-aging formulas.

Guerlain is a brand that really cares about the sustainability of the planet. As you may know, bees are endangered and Guerlain is involved in multiple partnerships for the protection of bees. The honey for Abeille Royale products are gathered from bees on Ouessant Island which is classified as a “biosphere reserve” under UNESCO. These bees have never been affected by pollution, pesticides, or illnesses from other continents. So the honey that is produced is pure and very high-quality! Guerlain helps by providing financial support and research support for the bee conservation on Ouessant Island.

Guerlain Abeille Royale Eye R Repair Serum

We all know to use a face serum before moisturizer, but how many of us use an eye serum? A serum is super important for skincare as it’s usually formulated to go deeper into the skin. I’ve tried all sorts of face serums but this is my first time trying an eye serum!

The Guerlain Abeille Royale Eye R Repair Serum is an anti-aging product dedicated to opening up the eyes! The powerhouse ingredient at work is called the “BlackBee Eye Repair” technology which combines bee products with tensing polymers to lift and smooth out the eye contour. I’m impressed that honey and royal jelly are pretty high up on the ingredient list, 6th and 8th respectively. The worst is when a skincare product is named after an ingredient but that ingredient is actually last on the list!

  • Ouessant Honey: The black bees on this island produces a pure honey that is rich in amino acids. The bees are protected from pesticides and the honey produced offers ingredients vital in the repair process of skin tissue
  • Royal Jelly: A natural source of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and vitamins, the royal jelly is the most precious substance from the beehive.

I love the scent of this product. It’s hard to point my finger on it but I’d describe it as expensive honey soap haha. I’m not sure if I notice a decrease in puffiness or dark circles but my eyes do feel more open immediately after use. The formulation is very liquid-y and spreads very easily. I tend to avoid using this on my eyelid though because I usually have eyelash extensions on and I don’t want any serum getting onto the lashline. Visibly, I can’t see an eye lifting effect but I can feel my skin feeling firmer and also slightly tingly. It also leaves the eye area feeling pretty moisturized even on its own.

One last thing to point out is the rounded pearl applicator. The rounded drop helps disperse the product and also acts as a cooling contact point on the skin. I love doing a little self care massage around the eyes. There’s a great picture tutorial on how to apply this product on Guerlain’s website.

Guerlain Double R Serum

Along with the eye serum release, I have been using the Guerlain Double R serum and have seen visible difference in my skin! The Guerlain Double R Renew & Repair Serum is housed in two separate compartments with a beautiful bee embossed pump on top. The main ingredients are also the Ouessant Honey and Royal Jelly (6th and 10th in the ingredient list)! When you use the pump, equal amounts of the honey and jelly come out already mixed. There’s no stickiness at all to the texture and it has the same heavenly honey scent as the eye serum.

What I noticed after using it for just a few days was how even my skin looked. It was just starting to get sunny in Vancouver and I was getting a bit of sun burn on my cheeks using my previous skincare routine (it contained retinol). However, once I switched to this serum, my skin texture just looked so healthy and even. Also, I have very dry skin but I’ve actually been using this serum on it’s own without a moisturizer and my skin feels perfectly hydrated!

I haven’t noticed results on other anti-aging claims such as minimizing pores and wrinkles. But I’m very impressed with how radiant my skin looks and I haven’t had any breakouts since switching! These products are definitely on the pricey side though with the eye serum coming in at $155 and the face serum at $191. But you’re paying for luxury in every sense.

Hellllooo fall! 🍂🍁 In just a few weeks, the Hellllooo fall! 🍂🍁

In just a few weeks, the leaves are going to be golden red at Trout Lake!! 🤩😍. What are your favorite fall foliage spots in Vancouver?
Editing this post made MY MOUTH WATER!! 🤤🤤 Editing this post made MY MOUTH WATER!! 🤤🤤

Here are the best things I ate in Japan - restaraunt edition! (do you want to see one for snacks? or do you want to see a worst things I ate in Japan?)
Prices of the specific dish listed below.

1. Kanoko, try their special green tea infused soba or normal soba. I loved the dashi and tempura. Perfect lunch option for after visiting the tori gates. 1,300 Yen 🍜

2. Okonomiyaki Sakaba, you can pick the inside filling and a lot of the options were meat based. The sauce on top is delicious and you may be surprised the inside is mostly cabbage and not flour. 1,000 Yen🍥

3. Udon Bo Osaka, I tried out a cold dipping udon and it was excellent! They have a special yuzu sauce and the tempura is amazing too. 1,250 Yen 🍤

4. Roast Beef Ohno, the most affordable way to eat wagyu! Loved the sauces and nice side veggie dishes too. 1,750 Yen 🥓

5. Fuunji, flavorful dipping ramen with a vending machine to order! 1,400 (with egg + bamboo add on)🍱

6. Maguro Koya, holy crap I'm addicted to Ootoro now. So glad we splurged and got the double portion. We also tried the chutoro sashimi to compare cuts. 3,200 Yen 🍣

Hope this provides some delicious inspo for the best food in Japan!
Here's what I found from Ragtag in Japan!! 🤩🤩
I've definitely had my eye on a Dior piece and it's extra special that this design is a Japan exclusive.
I have to say, second hand designer shopping is a lot harder than I remembered! There are SO many stores now, I probably visited 20+ and the prices are not so cheap anymore 🤧🤧
.
A similar card holder from Dior is probably $600 CAD + tax. I got this one for ~$350 CAD. It's in excellent condition but there was no dust bag nor box.
