Packaging

In the land of a crowded beauty market, Merit Beauty really impressed me with this lipstick packaging. Instead of a typical circular tube, the Merit Lightweight Lipstick comes in a square tube with a unique burgundy cap. The inside reveals a gold tube with a nice smooth twist function. There is a nice weight to it that makes this lipstick feel luxurious.
Formula

Merit Beauty is a clean beauty brand that is also vegan and cruelty free. They also try to add skincare benefits into makeup. In this case, plant-derived squalane adds moisture and vitamin C helps to diffuse thin lines on the lips.
First off, you’ll immediately notice that the Merit Beauty Lightweight lipstick is creamy with a bit of a shine. It glides over the back of my hand very smoothly and that transfers to the lip application experience as well. The color deposits evenly all over the lips and hides any flaky dry skin. It practically feels like wearing a lip balm and is definitely much lighter than a traditional lipstick.
Merit Lightweight Lipstick Shades
I have two shades from the brand. Surprisingly these are usually shades that I find difficult to pull off but I can easily wear Slip and Millennial on a daily basis. Although the word “lightweight” is used quite a bit to describe this lipstick, I wouldn’t say the color payoff is sheer at all. There is enough color where your natural lip color isn’t showing through but you achieve a very natural looking finish.

Millennial – Classic Pink
For some reason, classic pinks make my teeth look yellow and my complexion look washed out normally so it’s not my go to. But Millennial makes me look youthful and adds a pop of muted color. It’s been a favorite the last few weeks.

Slip – Warm Neutral
I only have a few nude lipstick shades in my collection that doesn’t make me look like a corpse. Slip has just enough brown to add some dimension. But it is still light enough to look like a nude. I love using this if my eye makeup is already dramatic and I just want my lips to fade away.
