On an everyday basis, I usually reach for a light lip gloss. But for a special day out, I really love picking a bold lipstick shade. The Lancome L’Absolu Rouge Lipsticks fit that bill perfectly with pigmented bold colors with an equally striking packaging to match. These shades are perfect for that special occasion. I’ll be swatching and reviewing four of these beautiful gals today!

Packaging
These lipsticks have such a beautiful and luxurious packaging. The first thing that stands out is the lid at the top. Instead of pulling the black cap off, you press the top and the bottom pops out. Secondly, the bottom of the Lancome L’Absolu Rouge has this intricate rope design which adds a baroque luxurious feel. The slightly curved edges also make this lipstick vanity display worthy.

Formula

It is hard to generalize the formula of these lipsticks as a variety of finishes are available. But overall they have amazing color pay off and stays on the lips for a long time. They are also very comfortable so you don’t feel it’s on even with the matte shades. For the Drama Matte finishes, I find that they stain more easily. When I swatched these colors on my arms, they left some color even after I tried to wipe it off. It’s really great for when you want the lipstick to last a few hours with minimal touch ups!
One thing to note is that these are all quite heavily perfumed. It has that classic parfum smell which may or may not be your jam.

66 Orange Confite
I was most excited about the shade 66 Orange Confite because a bright orange is so much fun for summer time. Unfortunately, this is the one shade that fell flat for me. Although it’s slated as a cream finish, I found it to be quite sheer and had a metallic reflection. It is super fun but not a shade that matches with my skin tone.

118 French Coeur
If you’re looking to make an entrance, I highly recommend the shade 118 French Coeur. This lipstick is a cream finish with a very strong color payoff. The shade is a brickish brown red that would be so flattering against a variety of skin tones. It’s a bold lip color that’s a bit different than a red lip. Although it’s a cream finish, the formula is quite grippy which is great as the color will stay within the lip lines and not smear easily.

505 Attrape Coeur
Moving onto the two Drama Matte finishes. If you are looking for a brighter look, the 505 Attrape Coeur is your girl! I love how vibrant this shade is and I think it would be so fun for brunch with the girls.

888 French Idol
Lastly, I want to show you 888 French Idol. It is surprisingly similar to the shade above but a bit darker and with a berry tone instead of pink. While the shade above is ideal for summer, I think this shade can be perfect year round for any special occasion. The formula is grippy with amazing staying power. You’ll be able to enjoy your night out without worrying about your lipstick wearing off.
