Givenchy Noir Interdit Mascara Review

August 25, 2017

There’s been lots of innovation with mascara wands in recent years but I’ve never seen one in which the wand bends to a 90 degree angle! The new Givenchy Noir Interdit mascara is the latest innovation in mascara with a brush that can be used straight or bent at an angle. It looks a bit gimmicky but how does it perform?

The luxury of the Givenchy Noir Interdit mascara is evident from the first touch. It’s much heavier than most of my other mascaras and feels very sturdy in the hands. The packaging is classy and has a textured ribbon down the middle in the front and back. The Givenchy label is embossed and gives a nice 3D effect. Another thing I noticed right off the bat is the scent. There is a light rose scent in the formula that you’ll be able to detect when you apply and in the first few minutes after. It adds to the whole experience!

Now time to talk about the wand! The main drawing point is that the wand can bend in 90 degrees! The joint is relatively easy to bend and I usually do this when I pull it out of the packaging and lean the wand against the tub. The application was surprisingly easy as I thought I would struggle. I actually thought it was a lot easier on my arms and it was a more natural angle to apply. However, I’m not sure if there was a difference between applying it at an angle or using a straight brush. You’ll see a comparison photo at the bottom.

If you use it as a straight wand, you’ll notice that it is shorter than what you are normally used to. This helps to provide more control. The brush is all natural bristles and tightly packed together in a dome shape. There is only one side with brushes though so be sure not using the flat side when applying mascara (which I kind of did at the beginning)

The formula was the perfect consistency! Not too dry and not too wet! I found it really easy to separate out my lashes and had no issues with clumping, smudging, or flaking. But even with building, I wasn’t able to achieve a night time glam look. I like the look of my lashes that I’m able to achieve and I feel like it’s more suited for a sophisticated every day look.

Here you can see that the Givenchy Noir Interdit mascara does a fantastic job of picking up every lash and separating them. I don’t get crazy volume or length but do get a nicely defined look. The formula holds up very well and my lashes look essentially the same at the end of the day! My right eye (left on the photo) was by using the wand straight, and my left eye was using the wand at a 90 degree angle. I don’t think there’s any difference in results but I think it’s actually a more natural angle to use an up and down motion!
