Eco Tools Facial Mask Mates: Spa Like Experience at Home

August 19, 2018

For the longest time, I used sheet masks exclusively! Sheet masks are extremely popular in Asia and used to be $1 per pop. I always found cream face masks to be so messy to apply and take off. However, the Eco Tools Facial Mask Mates has changed the whole facial at home experience for me! At first, I dismissed this slightly gimmicky looking set, but at $7.99 (~$11.50 CAD) this investment will change the way you mask.

What is in the Ecotools Facial Mask Mates Set

The set comes with one mask applicator and 3 sponges. The brush is the mask applicator and will help to evenly apply cream, gel, or clay masks. The three sponges are for the removal of facial masks. It is made from natural plant pulp.

Mask Applicator

My biggest issues when applying face masks with my fingers is that products dig into my finger nails. I really dislike that feeling and it’s especially apparent in face masks like the fresh Sugar Face Polish as it has little sugar particles that can get lodged under my nail. My second issue is that it usually takes me a long time to actually cover my whole face. Lastly, since it’s my finger tips, I do have issues with being able to evenly cover my whole face as obviously there are gaps between your fingers.

The mask applicator in the Eco Tools Facial Mask Mates fixes all those problems! I can dig the brush into the mask and pull out a bigger amount than I normally can with my finger tips. The bristles are really soft and smooth so it feels very pampering when applied. I can apply face masks without getting a single finger dirty! I have tried using it with gel masks, clay masks, and also this fresh mask with sugar particles. It works well for all of them! Just remember to rinse it off as soon as possible so it doesn’t dry and make it difficult to clean.

Mask Remover Sponges

The set comes with 3 Mask Remover Sponges. The sponges are extremely stuff when dry but softens up tremendously when wet. My biggest pet peeve of facial masks is the removal portion. I’m often bent over the bathroom sink for 10 mins trying to rinse off the dried clay masks. Worse, I’ll often have water running down my arms to my elbow and getting my clothes wet. Normally, I would just use face masks before I shower so I don’t have to deal with it. Now, these sponges are such a life saver when I take off my masks. It works really well to take off the mask and the product usually rinses off quite easy too! I also like the feeling of using a sponge to remove the product as it reminds me of the spa.

The sponge shown in the photo above has already been used to remove two masks. It’s a bit dirty but definitely still useable. Ecotools actually also sells refills of just the sponges and it’s really not that expensive! You can buy a 3 pack of the sponges for $3.99 (~ $5.50 CAD). I find that my skin feels really clean when I use this as it takes off product better than my finger tips can!

What Masks to Use

The set is made for cream, gel or clay masks. This covers off mostly all types of face masks so it’s universally usable. I tried it with 3 of the face masks that I’m currently working on:

  1. Fresh Sugar Face Polish: I like to use this one when I want a gentle exfoliation. You only need to leave this mask on for 5-10 minutes so it’s great also when I don’t have a lot of time. This mask does not dry down. Once you remove the mask, your skin feels soft and supple with a slight oil film. However it doesn’t feel greasy, merely moisturized!
  2. Kiehls Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Mask: This lightweight gel mask is great for when I want a healthy dose of hydration. It also smells very refreshing so I love it during the summer time! This mask is actually normally pretty easy to apply and remove with my fingers. But the Eco Tools Mask Mates Set makes the experience feel more like an at home facial!
  3. Laneige Mini Pore Waterclay Mask: If I need some major TLC on my skin, this is the mask I go for! I find it fantastic at cleaning out your pores, removing grease and buildup! However, this is normally so difficult to apply and a nightmare to remove with bare hands. But with this mask set, I would leave the damp sponge on top of the dried up masks to loosen it up and then wipe away for easy removal!

I know the set may seem gimmicky and trying to create a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist. But if you ever want to take your facials to the next level at home, or just save some time with the application and rinse process, you need to check out this set! I haven’t been this excited by a beauty tool in a while but this set has really changed the way I look at face masks. I am using my face masks a lot more frequently and enjoying the experience.
