Winky Lux Flower Balm Jelly Lip Stain Review

January 31, 2019

You may have seen a photo of a lip balm with a suspended flower and wondered what it was. Let me introduce you to Winky Lux Flower Balm! Winky Lux is a pretty new brand and is recently available at Sephora Canada and Murale. The brand has really whimsical packaging and their signature product is the “lip pills”.

BASICS

Name: Winky Lux Flower Balm
Shades: Available in 5 different shades
Size:
Price: $14
Find it atΒ SephoraΒ and Winky Lux online

What makes the Winky Lux Flower Balm so interesting is the piece of real flower suspended at the bottom of the lip balm. Even from a first glance, it gives you feelings of magic and fantasy. The brand’s iconic packaging is having lip products look like little “pills”. While it’s cute in concept, I prefer lipsticks that have a flat bottom so it can stand. But if you carry a smaller purse around every day, you’ll enjoy that the size of this lip balm is about 25% smaller than normal lipsticks.

The shade I have is “Pink” and refers to the color of the flower in the lip balm. The other colors are Blue, Green, Yellow, and Purple. Each of these have a different colored flower at the bottom but still with a clear balm. Although it is transparent to the eye, the balm will transform to a light pink as it interacts with the pH of your lips. I’ve tried pH changing lip products before including a very affordable one from London Drugs so it’s not a brand new concept to me.

I love the vanilla scent and it reminds me of a candle that I have. The texture is quite thin but still provides some hydration to the lips. It leaves a beautiful shine without any stickiness. It’s very easy to use without a mirror although I did notice that the corner of my lips (and a bit of my upper lip) was stained pink after using it all day, so maybe it is a good idea to stay within your lip lines.

Swatch & Demo

Here is what the Flower Balm looks like swatched on my hand. It turns pink almost immediately and goes slightly deeper with time.

Here it is on my lips. I find in real life there is a bit more shine to it than this photo is showing. But I hope you can see the pretty pink flush.

Ratings

Moisturizing: 10/10
Color: 8/10
Packaging: 8/10
Value: 8/10
Overall: 34/40 B

I found the Winky Lux Flower Balm to be a really easy product to use on a daily basis. It combines hydration, shine, and a bit of color to make my lips look more alive. I also like that I don’t need to use a mirror although I’ll be more conscious of not smearing it outside of my lip lines. I recommend you to give this a try if you’re looking for a light pop of color!
