Best Hair Care Products 2021

May 29, 2021

I am still learning how to achieve the perfect blow out at home but I now realize how important it is to style your hair! I’ve been curling my hair a lot more this year and have been coloring it for the past two years (check out my experience with Sukis). For today’s post, I’ve rounded up the best hair care products to show you what I use to keep my hair feeling soft and smooth and also how to achieve volume and hold when I curl my hair!

Best Shampoo & Conditioner: OGX Kandee Johnson Shampoo & Conditioner

To start, I have been loving the OGX Kandee Johnson Shampoo and Conditioner. Kandee is known for having bright colored hair and the collection was created to protect color-treated hair from the dreaded fade. I’ve actually been using this for the past year and as you can see, I only have less than a quarter left now. I love this system as the shampoo cleans my hair well and doesn’t strip. The conditioner leaves my hair feeling smooth but my hair doesn’t feel flat or weighed down.

I also love the scent of this shampoo and conditioner. It’s like a bright fruity tropical cocktail. It’s a bit sweet but not overpowering at all and transports me to vacation. My hair color has also stayed very nice in the past year. I’ve tried quite a few OGX products and I really enjoyed this collection as well as the OGX Biotin+ Volume Collection.

Available at your local drugstore.

Best Blow Dry Cream: Bumble and Bumble BB. Thickening Blow Dry Creme

This product is very new to me and actually my first time trying Bumble and Bumble products. Crazy, I know! It’s important to protect your hair against heat so this volumizing cream multitasks to hydrate, heat protect, and hold the volume. The product leaves my hair a little bit tacky so it’s important to not use too much. I like it’s a multitasking product and my main hair concern is getting more volume so this fits the bill well!

Available at Sephora for $38.

Best Hair Repair: Amika the Closer

Earlier this year, I attended an online launch event for Amika! One of the products is The Closer Instant Split-end Hair Repair Cream. If you have damaged hair or split ends, this product is a life saver! The texture is a light cream with a slight slippery feel. It’s lightweight and doesn’t make the hair greasy! I find my hair instantly feel stronger and smoother.

Available at Sephora for $36.

Best Hairspray: Schwarzkopf Styliste Ultime Biotin Volume Hairspray

One of my all time favorite hair sprays is this Schwarzkopft BIotin+ Volume Hair Spray. My hair is very heavy and straight so it’s tough to hold a curl! This spray helps my curl stay for at least a full day (2nd day curls yay!). It’s never crunchy which I really appreciate and the scent is amazing with a hint of vanilla. I don’t even put on perfume when I use this. This bottle lasted me over 2 years and is great value!

Available at Well.ca for $15

Best Volume: Living Proof Full Volume Blast

Another product that has been a long time hair care favorites of mine is the Living Proof Full Volume Blast (this is probably my 2nd or 3rd bottle)! I usually spray this on my roots near the top after I finish curling my hair. It adds body and hold to my look and I love the fresh scent! The combination of this and the Schwarzkopf hair spray is perfect. It is color safe and provides UV protection too.

This product works to add volume to your hair by increasing the space between hair fibres using their “Volumizing + Texturizing Molecule”. There is a bit of grit feeling similar to other texturing products but I never experience any crunchiness.

Available at Sephora for $40.

Best Shine: L’Oreal EverSleek 10 in 1 Blowout Oil

Although this is a blowout oil, I usually use this on my dry hair. After I use a curling iron on my hair (currently using Conair infinitiPRO), my ends can sometimes look dry. So I take half a pump of this in my fingers and lightly dab it over the bottom 1/4 of my hair strands. The L’Oreal Ever Sleek 10 in 1 Blowout Oil provides a nice way to add shine back in my hair. This line is specifically safe for color-treated hair.

Available at your local drugstore (~$12 for 89mL)

Best Scent: Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Florale

Lastly, I have been loving the Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse in the Florale scent. You may know the original Huile Prodigieuse (it’s in a gold bottle) but I love the scent of this Florale version more! It also comes in a spray bottle so I don’t need to get my hands oily! While the product is marketed for use on the face, body, or hair. I mostly use this as a hair fragrance as I love the scent. It’s floral but not at all sweet, it slightly reminds me of tea. The ingredients are 97% natural and contains seven botanical oils.

Available at Shoppers Drug Mart and London Drugs ($27 for 50mL)

I wrote a similar post 2 years ago sharing my favorite hair care products back then. It’s so much fun to see what has changed! Hope you discovered some new products through this post and that it can help up your hair routine game!

Hellllooo fall! 🍂🍁 In just a few weeks, the Hellllooo fall! 🍂🍁

In just a few weeks, the leaves are going to be golden red at Trout Lake!! 🤩😍. What are your favorite fall foliage spots in Vancouver?
Editing this post made MY MOUTH WATER!! 🤤🤤 Editing this post made MY MOUTH WATER!! 🤤🤤

Here are the best things I ate in Japan - restaraunt edition! (do you want to see one for snacks? or do you want to see a worst things I ate in Japan?)
Prices of the specific dish listed below.

1. Kanoko, try their special green tea infused soba or normal soba. I loved the dashi and tempura. Perfect lunch option for after visiting the tori gates. 1,300 Yen 🍜

2. Okonomiyaki Sakaba, you can pick the inside filling and a lot of the options were meat based. The sauce on top is delicious and you may be surprised the inside is mostly cabbage and not flour. 1,000 Yen🍥

3. Udon Bo Osaka, I tried out a cold dipping udon and it was excellent! They have a special yuzu sauce and the tempura is amazing too. 1,250 Yen 🍤

4. Roast Beef Ohno, the most affordable way to eat wagyu! Loved the sauces and nice side veggie dishes too. 1,750 Yen 🥓

5. Fuunji, flavorful dipping ramen with a vending machine to order! 1,400 (with egg + bamboo add on)🍱

6. Maguro Koya, holy crap I'm addicted to Ootoro now. So glad we splurged and got the double portion. We also tried the chutoro sashimi to compare cuts. 3,200 Yen 🍣

Hope this provides some delicious inspo for the best food in Japan!
Here's what I found from Ragtag in Japan!! 🤩🤩
I've definitely had my eye on a Dior piece and it's extra special that this design is a Japan exclusive.
I have to say, second hand designer shopping is a lot harder than I remembered! There are SO many stores now, I probably visited 20+ and the prices are not so cheap anymore 🤧🤧
.
A similar card holder from Dior is probably $600 CAD + tax. I got this one for ~$350 CAD. It's in excellent condition but there was no dust bag nor box.
