YSL Volupte Liquid Color Balm Review & Demo

YSL makes some of my favorite lip products (traditional lipstick and new liquid lipstick)! The combination of luxury packaging, great quality, and that irresistible scent makes this one splurge item I’ll always enjoy. Today I’ll be reviewing the YSL Volupte Liquid Color Balm in two different shades. I’m really glad brands are coming out with less pigmented/staining lippies as they just did not suit my lifestyle. A wash of color and a shiny reflection is just what I prefer!

Packaging

If you love the traditional YSL lipstick design, you’ll likely love this too. The YSL Volupte Liquid Color Balm has kept the YSL logo that wraps around the tube. However, these are much longer than traditional lipsticks. One design feature I love is the see through “lips” at the bottom of the tube. Not only is this beautiful to look at, it helps you determine what shade is inside the tube! The applicator itself is a rounded foam tip. There’s nothing too special about it but it does the job. Although the rounded edge can’t provide a super precise application, the color pay off is forgiving enough that it can be a bit messy.

Formula

The texture of the YSL Volupte Liquid Color Balm is closer to a liquid lipstick than a lip balm. When applied to the lips, it feels thin and watery. However, a good amount of pigment comes out especially considering this is marketed as a “balm”. It won’t give you full opacity but the colors do show up quite differently on my lips. I love that there is a shine to the finished look but no stickiness at all! It doesn’t wear for very long and it’ll come off on mugs, straws, napkins etc. But I don’t mind as I’d be happy to reapply this throughout the day!

The product also has the classic YSL lip product scent that I adore! It’s a combination of citrus and tropical fruits and I can sniff it all day!

02 Expose Me Rose

YSL Volupte Liquid Color Balm in 02 Expose Me Rose is a classic medium pink. I feel the color looks very natural and as if I just had rosy lips all the time. I would describe it as a dusty pink as it definitely has some mauve undertones to it. I can see this being so flattering against lots of skin tones and eye looks.

07 Grab Me Red

YSL Volupte Liquid Color Balm in 07 Grab Me Red is a louder color that puts the emphasis on the lips. I think it’s a beautiful red that is very wearable. Although the color is there, you can see some of natural lip color show through. I think it would be a gorgeous shade when you have a more simple eye look but this bold shade will make you look put together.

Not only is the color beautiful, there are conditioning ingredients in this product as well since it is called a “balm” after all! You’ll find shea butter, coconut water, apricot kernel oil just to name a few. If you want to splurge on a lip product that you’ll actually wear on a daily basis, these are calling your name!
